One gate (at No 100 has been repaired  - the mirror was at the wrong angle and therefore the gate kept opening.

 

Quara has also sent an electrician to look at the problem of the gates going off once the lights fused.  Quara have told me that the gates are now on a different circuit.  We had some rain last week and the gates did stay operational all through the deluge.

 

I will be talking to the committee at our next meeting to agree a new closing date

 Quara has just today finished connecting all of phase II to the mains water supply.  There are still some pipes to be cleared  and  quite a few of the water "cupboards" have to be repaired (Quara had to make larger access hatches to make some of the connections), however the streets look a lot wider and tidier already.  I will be making a list of the repairs needed  to make sure we follow up on the progress Quara makes completing the tidy up works.

There are no meters as yet.  These will only follow once our Habitation certificates are issued..

I'll make another post as soon as there are any further developments.

 The gates for Phase II will be operational from 18th December and not the 21st as previously notified.

 

Anyone who has yet to collect their key/fob can get them from myself at No.63.  Alternatively, if you would like someone else to collect them on your behalf, please send me an e-mail to give me the authority to issue them to a third party.

 LA CAÑADA PHASE II

COMMITTEE 2009/10

 

 

At the AGM last Friday, 13^th November 2009, I was elected as President for La Cañada Phase II.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who supported me and for the many kind words of encouragement I have received.

 

Also elected at the AGM were Jean as Vice-President, along with John , Greg, Tony and Charlie as committee members.

 

Together we will work to make sure that the management of Community affairs is developed and maintained at the highest possible level.

 

 

Updates

I have decided that I will issue regular news-sheets (every 4-6 weeks) in order to keep everyone informed and up-to-date with what is happening in the community.    

 

During the year the Committee and I will think about the best way to make sure that everybody receives this.  In the meantime if you would like me to send you a copy please let me know your e-mail address and I will make sure to send you one.  Copies will also be issued with the minutes of the AGM.

 

Already I have had several meetings with OCSI and a further one with Bonsai.  Details of these will be included in my first news-sheet.

 

I have also had several ad-hoc discussions with community members and have received several suggestions and ideas that they have asked that I take forward.  In order that everyone knows how these are progressing I will compile an “action” list setting out the details of the suggestion and recording progress.  A copy of this will be sent out as part of the news-sheet.

Quara have started work on the community snag list.  They have a lot of men on site and things are progressing quite quickly at the moment.  Some owners on Phase 1 have already been connected to the mains water supply – without meters as yet.  If work on this continues at the same pace then it is possible that all of phase 2 will be completed within 3-4 weeks from now.

 

Finally, for now, as has already been announced the community car and pedestrian gates will be activated and closed from 21^st December.   Quara have supplied keys for all houses but sufficient fobs only for those with driveways inside of the gates.  I hold the supply of keys and fobs to be issued to community members.  To collect these please either call around to the house or, if you want to have them collected by someone on your behalf, please send me an e-mail giving me their name and authorising me to issue your key/fob to the nominee.

Candidate for President of Phase II 2009/10

 

I am writing to let all Community Members know that I will be offering myself as a candidate for election to the post of President at the forthcoming AGM.

 

My wife and I bought our home here in September 2007.  We moved from Ireland in March 2009 and I am now resident in La Cañada II.

 

For the past 18 years I have been a senior manager in the Northern Ireland Civil Service with the role of Project Manager.  During this time I have managed teams of up to 150 staff, including the management of external contractors.  In tihs time I have had responsibility for budgets of up to £10m per annum.  Prior to becoming a Project Manager I was a Management Consultant for the Health & Social Services Trusts (Hospitals) in Northern Ireland.  During this time I qualified as a “time & motion” practitioner. 

 

Because of my background I believe I would be ideally suited to lead the team responsible for managing our Communities affairs.

 

If elected I would work towards delivering the following objectives in my term of office:-

• Achieving a habitation certificate for the community;
• Maximising the security of the community;
• Minimising Community fees through the development of the most efficient Management processes;
• Increasing the involvement of Community Members in decision making; and
• Maximising the availability of information to community Members, particularly non-resident members.
