Carles Puyol could leave Barcelona - Agent
Friday, September 4, 2009 @ 5:58 PM

Barcelona will need to convince Carles Puyol that he is wanted and will play an important role...

Carles Puyol could leave Barcelona unless he is given a settled role in the team and is not over-looked for crucial games like last season, his agent has warned.

The Blaugrana defender has postponed talks about signing an extension to his current deal because he wants to see how often and where he will play this season.

Agent Ramon Sostres was adamant that the deal on the table is attractive, but Puyol was not concerned about money and is more worried about his role in the team.

"Puyol's renewal talks have stopped," Sostres was quoted as saying by Sport. "It is a very good offer but the player wants to see how things go with the team first.

"Look at what happened last season when Puyol played right, left and in the centre.

"In the semi-final [of the Champions League] against Chelsea he did not play much. He is the only captain that would not play in such an important game.

"The player's doubts are exclusively to do with the playing side and the financial aspect is of no importance.

"Now he has to think long and hard about his future and decide whether it will be with Barca or with another team. We will have to wait and see.

"Pep [Guardiola] likes him as a player, but in the middle he prefers players who like to play with the ball and it is possible that he prefers [Rafa] Marquez, [Dmytro] Chygrynskiy or [Gerard] Pique."

The agent concluded by saying, "The coach knows that Puyol is always ready for whatever he is needed for. We will just have to wait because time can change many things."
