Differents Mineral waters
Saturday, July 18, 2009

When we talk about mineral water it seems to me that we are not aware of the differences among them. Once again we have to speak about solids contents in the water, quantity of mg of solid content in a liter of water, and then we can see the difference. For example, we have Bezoya (manufactured in Madrid) with 26 mg/l as one of the best you can consume; most of the water in the market are above 100 mg/l ( Lanjarón, Solán, Fontvella, etc.). There are two trademarks treated with Reverse Osmosis which are sold under the names : Aquarel from Nestlé, and Aquafina from Pepsi group, both around 10 mg/l when we made TDS test (Total Dissolved Solids). So when we speak about mineral water we have to consider TDS test to compare the hardness of the mentioned water, not if we like the taste or not; we don´t have to forget that WHO consider healthy waters those with a solid content under 50 mg/l.

Minerals are esential for life but not in the water
Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Maria, asked me days ago- sorry for the delay- about mineral water. The are several reasons why I said they are not the best water we can get. First, because  most of the bottles used to sell mineral waters normally are plastics, this are made of PET (Polyethylene Terephtalate) and a dangerous material used as catalyst for the manufacture of the abovementioned PET : Antimony trioxide (a compound of antimony) "filter" into the water, mainly because of high temperature (over 18ºC) and also due to longer periods of water in the plastic bottle. Don't you agree water taste awful when you drink of a bottle you forgot in the car during few days?. Also this contamination is produced  when the plastic bottle suffer of knockings. There are huge amounts of information about it in the web. For example, the research made by Dr. Ch. Reimann from Norway, leader of the Euro Geo Surveys Group, which toghether with his colegues of different european countries analized about 1500 differents marks of mineral waters and the results are that most of the waters are contaminated by small amounts of antimony, highly dangerous for human health; there are also other repports about the issue, saying that this is one of the reasons of breast cancer in women. Mineral waters are good in the spring, in the origin, at the balnearies, nice natural pools, where they come from,  NOT in the plastic botlles.

But, the minerals are essentials to life, isn't it?.  Yes, but  the water is not the best way to get them. Our knees dosn't like either; It is better to get the minerals we need from other sources : fruits, vegetables, beans, etc..

Best regards,

Joaquín

Introduction to the blog
Thursday, May 21, 2009

Yesterday a join Eyeonspain with my blog which I called "Healthywater in spanish coast" but I didn't explain why that name and the purpose of the blog; I had been involved in water bussines more than 20 years and today we hear a lot of information about food, water corcening our health, and often this is confusing and contradictory. The water, we consum for domestic use

along the spanish coast-I live in Costa del Sol- although is potable in most of the municipalities, is not the best water we can get from the point of view of the health, because of the clorium, and the high content of mineral, etc. Recognized worldwide Health Authorities as World Health Organitation fix 500 mg/liter the maximun contain of mineral in the water to be consired as potable but other organitations also recognized as for example EPA fix this figure in 50 mg/l as the maximun content of solid in the water so we can consider as HEALTHY water. Most of the municipal water supplies are over 140 mg/l along the coast, where we have coast areas as for example Almeria, Murcia, Alicante, Valencia, etc which solids contents in the water are between 500 mg/l and 1000 mg/l. If we want to know the hardness of the water we get at home, all we have to do is to get a TDS  (Total Disolved Solids) meassure unit , and this will give us inmediatly the quantity of solids in our water at home... But many people say they don't drink water from the taps but they buy mineralwater. And there are also many information today which say mineral water is neither the most healthy water we can get because most of them has also a high content of solid (minerals mainly); only few of them has a low solid index in mg/l.

We can also watch several adverts in spanish TV of mineral water which include information about ph of the water, etc. and all this information I would like to share with you in this blog, as well as  your opinion about this matter, your expirience in this field, many homes along the spanish coast has installed at home a Reverse Osmosis machine to purify the water.
