Exloring the beautiful island of Tenerife

Lying out in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morocco, Spain’s Canary Islands enjoy year-round mild temperatures, making them a popular holiday destination for European tourists. Of the eight islands that make up the Canary archipelago, Tenerife is by far the most developed attracting over six million visitors a year. With gorgeous sandy beaches and all-inclusive resorts, the south of the islands is where most people spend their entire holiday. If however, you put your explorer's hat on, you will discover that Tenerife is a majestic island full of extraordinary beauty and diversity.

While it is possible to visit various parts of Tenerife using public transport or by signing up for tours to reach out of the way places you are far better off renting a car. Renting a car not only allows you to discover hidden beaches it also gives you the ability to set your own timeline without being rushed around. the roads up to the mountains are really good , better than on the coast and if you do decide to hire rather than take trips you will definitely save money and not be rushed to the coach itinerary.

Below are a few ideas of places to visit while holidaying in Tenerife.

Santiago del Teide

Masca Not for the faint-hearted due to narrow twisting roads and vertical drops into the sea, the TF436 road to the white-washed village of Masca is something you will talk about for a long time.

La Laguna, El Portillo

Like driving along the spine of the island, the drive between La Laguna and El Portillo allows you to see both sides of the island from the mountain road. On this route, there are plenty of places to pull over and take a photograph.

Costa Adeje – Los Gigantes

For coastal scenery, it doesn’t get much better than the TF47 from the resort towns along the coast to the spectacular cliffs of Los Gigantes. La Orotava – Icod de los Vinos For a true feel for Tenerife village life, drive the scenic TF342 to the historic town of Los Realejos. Teide National Park If during your trip to Tenerife you only have time to do one thing, make it a visit to Teide National Park. Often referred to as the “highway to heaven,” the drive up Spain’s highest mountain (3781m) will leave you awestruck.
