Experts (yesterday 9th December) are warning Greece could go bankrupt and this could have a domino effect on the other EU currencies. Glad we never bought in Greece?
There’s no point in running through the stats here but hang on to your hats. General exodus but to where? Chile, Argentina, Turkey?

True! My father was very much caught up in the Spanish Civil War though .. let's hope history doesn't repeat itself. If it comes to fight or flight ... you won't see my tail for dust.

On a controversial note I think it should be those robbed of their monies and life savings from developers/banks/lawyers/agents, whoever, that should be rioting and bringing major injustices to the attention of a Spanish government who appear unwilling to put their legal house in order. How many have won their legal cases and are still awaiting justice via return of their monies, delayed by a system open to abuse. And all the while the Spanish turn a blind eye, turning their backs on those folk (like the Priors) who were originally perceived as being of economic benefit to their society. The irony is that many could still be of benefit to the land of the sun if they were only allowed return of their monies!
Governments within the EU should be brought to order and encouraged to protect their citizens from abuse of all kinds whether it be Greece, Spain, UK, wherever.
It's time for the common person to stand up for their rights, to highlight injustice and abuse, and make their politicians finally accountable.
Surely in this day and age there could be a joint concerted visionary effort to come together and establish a workable plan of action to the benefit of the majority of EU citizens, instead of all pulling in different directions.
We need politicians with courage and foresight to stand outside the box and effect workable solutions.
Here endeth the rant!

so very very true!. I couldn't agree with you more, but I've been told i'm getting on everyones wick for stating this sort of thing on several threads that are not strictly about this, but are certainly connected. Some take it as a personal insult or critisism on their lifestyle decision or on Spain itself, others think i'm being a miserable git, when all i'm saying is I just want justice for those wronged and changes made that will benefit everyone who has anything to do with Spanish property. (with the exception of the crooks!!!), but it probably wont ever happen unless everyone is united.
What are the alternatives to what we are saying?, carry on as normal, carry on in denial, not support those wronged, pretend it will sort itself out?

Agreed! It is called, shoot the messenger. Drawing on a wide diversity of statistics and expert comment I often provide comment on hard truths.
Occasionally correspondents describe me as 'alarmist'. As you say, some prefer to be in denial or, they don't want to see anything 'in print' that might reflect badly on their political preferences. Tough! Publish and be damned!

Here here! Well said both of you.
I too have endlessly banged on about the corruption and lack of accountability etc in spain (and other so called 'emerging markets') and unless and until the corruption is iradicated, nothing else will change. The trouble is, it is the same politicians that got us in to this bloody mess that we are now hoping will get us out of it - I don't hold out much hope I am afraid.
Us poor suckers who are simply tying to do an honest days work for an honest reward and make the the best for our families future are just pawns in the game. At the very best we have several years of financial pain and misery ahead of us - at the worst, well it doesn't bear thinkng about. Sorry to be such a grumpy old man!
