Wish i'd read the website properly now too . It appears that Barcelona is the only Spanish route to be cancelled.

Knowing Ryanair it will probably re-appear under the title Manchester (Leeds/Bradford)...

Like London (Luton) or London (Stansted) or Frankfurt (Hahn) or Barcelona (Girona)...

"Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (17^th Aug) announced that it will switch/close 9 of its 10 Manchester routes to lower cost competitor airports in East Midlands, Leeds Bradford and Liverpool (from 1^st Oct) after Manchester Airport refused to lower its charges to reflect the lower fares being paid by passengers in the current recession. This move will result in the loss of 44 weekly Manchester flights, 600,000 passengers p.a. and up to 600 local jobs. 

I can onlt see more flights from the north cancelled as this recession bites us.

I flew to and from Manchester airport on several occasions and it was very convenient indeed. You get the train, and you are in central Manchester within 30mins, and from there there are very easy links to any part of the region or even the whole country.

Although the other airports are still close, they do not have yet those links to make them as accessible as Manchester airport.

Does anyone know if ryanair fly from east midlands?

Yes, Ryanair fly out from East Midlands to both Murcia and Alicante. We fly from East Mids all the time. Some good flight deals earlier on in the year (usually at silly flight times but hey, we live with it) but flights are starting to get a bit more expensive now
