When Iberian International frogmarched prospective buyers on our inspection trip into one of Cambank's Torrevieja branches) to open accounts many only had a few spare euros as they were not expecting this to happen & I know friends opened with 10 maybe 20€ only. Depends on what you want from your bank. Certain banks want more like 600€ to open a current a/c (Halifax ES basic current a/c for example) but we need to keep plenty in for DDs like water & electricity & community fees.

When Fadesa opened my account for me at the London branch of Banco Andalucia I paid nothing in and the account ran in deficit for three months because no one told me about the €10 fee for the non resident certificate. Then when I sent over the quarterly payments it would be in credit for a few days and then back in the red. With fees and charges it took about 6 months to get it sorted.
