Hi, I assume your son is 16 as the law changed, it used to be 14.

It used to be aged 14 you could apply for the license. To get it you needed a medical certificate issued by your docs (small charge) a copy of your nie or residencia card and then do the course. Its totally theoretical, no practice and takes around 6 weeks depending on keeness - my lad did it in about 3 days!!!

You do need spanish and I dont know if there is anywhere that lets you take it in English. I would doubt it.

The law was changed last year to minimum age 16 for a scooter.

18 for a car and the practise for the theory counts towards the theory for a car license.

Poster sent me a PM & I've answered...............

In fact it could even be 17 in Spain. I've seen lots written over past few months on various Spanish forums. Law changed (I think Jan 08) as too many young people were having accidents on mopeds.

I've just Googled quickly & found THIS (from 14 to 15) THIS (from 14 to 17)  THIS (from 14 to 15) THIS (from 14 to 16)
