Hi

We are moving to Spain in a few weeks. My son has a contract phone, pays about  £40.00 a month and has 1 year remaining on it. Can anyone tell me  how he can use the phone in Spain to phone England without the calls costing the earth.

Better to cancel the contract as running a uk phone in spain expensive. Otherwise he could "unlock" the phone for a few euros and buy a "Llamaya" sim for 5 euros. They are a cheap but good network without contract. Calls to UK from Spain cost about 1 euro cent per minute inc vat!!, plus a one off 29 euro cent connection fee with Llamaya. Also when you top up with Llamaya they give you 50% of what you topped up extra!

He will still have to keep his contract for another year we can't get out of that.

The other info is very helpful when the contract comes to an end.

Many thanks

Depends on which provider. I'm on O2 and have something called O2 travel pack which is free and I have just checked my account and it says for 50p I can use my phone abroad and then use my call allowance for calls. Best to check with his provider as to costs as charges in Europe have just been changed.

If your son took out insurance with his contract he should be able to get out of it via this insurance.  I certainly did with Orance when we moved  over.
