Every now and then I like to watch the odd transmission on UK TV and in Spain but I don't have Sky (I have Digital +).

The past couple of Sundays I have been trying to watch the BBC coverage of Formula 1 in preference to the Spanish coverage.

I have been accessing BBC iplayer via expatshield which is free but it suffers a lot of streaming and stop/starting which makes it hard to watch - a bit bloody annoying really!

I'm not an IT expert but I don't think the problem is with me becuase I have a fairly good 6MB service so I was wondering if the problem is that too many people overseas are logging onto expatshield such that proxy server is overloaded or is it a BBC problem. When I have watched the odd (not so popular) program then reception is fine?

When I was in Spain during the last worldcup I watched some of the English games on UKTVGlobal and if I recall that was much better but I think you need to pay GBP5 per month etc.

Anyway anyone any ideas for watching the odd UK transmission in Spain with acceptable quality etc.or should I go back and try UKTVGlobal again?

Someone posted this link a while ago to watch UK TV, it's great and we use it a lot.

I have been using Expatshield for some time, and sometimes the iPlayer suffers buffering, no doubt due to poor speed obtained on one's own ADSL rate. The fact that you are paying for "up to" 6MB does  not of course mean that you get anywhere near that speed at all times. However I have noticed in the last week or so that Expatshied has admitted "suffering from problems, especially in the near east" (which might have "leaked" to this end of the Med. I did reload the facility, which is not difficult but annoying if you are trying to watch something live. No problems since then.

I find the iPlayer a wonderful resource, both for TV and Radio. The latter is great for acces to Radio Wales and Radio Alba too.

I don't think problem is my ADSL. These days on any speedtest I get 5+MB.

I have no other problems on 6MB or with my previous 3MB service from Telefonica.

I'm convinced the problem is these very popular watchlive and somewhere there's a bottleneck.

I might test the onspeed solution for the British Grand Prixand report back.

filmon.com is excellent and has a strong sports focus.  Never experienced slow service or buffering.

Bit of an old thread to suddenly re-start "July 2011". Aside from Satellite changes, and BBC Iplayer, we found a new  Android "ap" recently for our tablet. You can watch any FTA UK channel using it live, but you do need a VPN. Tried it on my last visit.. Called My Player Pro. It does cost £2.00, but for those with new Sat problems it might be a blessing.

Having used Expatshield until it fell apart, I have since benefitted from using S4UVPN at £9.99 a quarter and am very pleased with it.
