Ok so heres the deal; my sister is on holiday in the Algarve and has decided to make use of a day trip to Seville so that we can meet up there since its a good halfway point between where I live and her holiday hotel.

This being Seville in the late Spring, the temperatures are going to be edging up towards the 30C mark and I have no great desire to be tramping the streets for four hours or so, so I thought I would investigate a boat trip on the Guadalquivir. Checking on the net I found this... Seems to be the answer and a pleasant way of spending an hour with a cooling breeze to take the edge off the mid afternoon sun; but...

My first reaction was 'That looks expensive...£69 or 79 euros for a one hour trip...' and expensive it is when you look at the exclusions...seems the price does not include the river trip itself, nor any drinks, nor transport to the point of embarkation. What it does include is 'the service of a tour guide'

Now I'm well used to being ripped off but doesnt it seem a litle odd that a tour company can offer a boat trip but not include the boat trip in its costings?

We will make our own way to the embarkation point and pay the 16 Euros fare for the trip and Viator can go float...or not as the case may be! I contacted Viator about the high costing and they have so far declined to answer!

Never heard of Viator. You didn't by any chance spot their ad in the personal columns, did you?

We were in Seville last summer 40ish at the time and we found this tour great value

No walking between different sights and "some'' breeze on the bus

One way to get to grips with the city is to take an open-top bus tour – especially good if you're pressed for time. This hop-on hop-off service is operated by Sevirama (tel 954 560 693) and the buses leave half-hourly from the riverside Torre del Oro, stopping at or near the main sites (all-day tickets cost around €9).

fb, that looks like a right rip off.  We did that boat trip last year and we certainly didn't pay those price...or else we would never have gone.

The sad thing is that there will be people actually paying those prices though.

Enjoy the (not so expensive) boat triip.

Do try the opentop bus tour.... its great value

Last time I was in Seville I thought it a great way to see the city. There is a running commentary in many different languages, you can hop off and hop on or just stay on as many times round the route as you like (they do sometimes vary the route a little too)

I was assured that the ticket lasts 24hrs - so you could use it one afternoon and then the next morning if you wish.

Saw so much of Seville including the Expo site and the pavillions.... and the fantasic Plaza Espana Oh and the Parque de Maria Luisa! ... brings back such memories

Jet....Definitely not!

Just got back from Seville a few minutes ago...

One hour boat trip...3 people @15 euros per head...pretty good value by todays standards. The commentary is taped but is in four languages Spanish, English, French and German.

My sisters trip from the Algarve in Portugal was 48 euros per head and included a guided bus tour of the city with the boat trip thrown in as an optional extra...My train fare from Loja to Seville was 34 Euros return, so even including long haul transportation our total costs were only a fraction of Viators price!

Mid-afternnon temps were into the 30's as I suspected they would be, so the river trip was an ideal way to 'chill out' so to speak, and linked with a couple of post trip cervezas altogether an excellent way to spend an afternoon....

Finally got a reply to my email to Viator...my comments have been passed up the food chain...be interesting to see if I get a further response.
