I fitted locks  something like this on to the shutters cost less than a  euro each,, drill a hole into each side of the shutter frame one on each side at bottom of the shutters.     http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/1123204119/stainless_steel_barrel_bolt/showimage.html              you dont use the small part of this lock. the bolt goes into the frame.

Hi all, Just been informed by our keyholders that we have been burgled in garden 9 as well, TV gone and probably a few more things. Absolutely gutted that this has happened. How can so many apartments be burgled and no one has seen a thing.

So sorry to hear this Chris, you must feel awful.
Have been here for a while now and keep trying differet gatehouses as well as using visitors and residents barriers and NEVER been stopped once.
No one knows if stolen goods are leaving site or not, if they are then security should be held responsible as the thieves must know that not being searched makes us easy prey.
However, if it is someone onsite then they are the lowest of the low.
Really gutted for you Chris.

Cheers Dave, yes on a bit of a downer at the moment, bought on a gated community as we thought it was safer and more secure. They're lowlife doing this to people. Garden 9 this week, Garden 8 last week. They seem to have the cheek to do the thefts in order. Hope you and Kim are doing fine, we'll have a beer together soon. Take care.

In my opinion this topic is geting rather silly now - everyone blaming security one minute, the next thing blaming management and then blaming the Spanish economic climate etc etc..............

Yes we all subscribed and bought into a secure community here in Condado, however it is simply not acceptable to keep pointing fingers of fault at our administration and other faceless representatives who are continually referred to in this and many other threads on Facebook.

The fact is that unfortunately thefts happen everywhere in the world and yes that includes Spain too, but believe it or not there are quite few places left on the planet where one can live in what some would like to call 'Utopia'

Blame it on unemployment, blame it on greed, blame it on society if you so wish, but please do get your facts correct before you start writing on such forums. On this note I will leave you with such a FACT.

A Condado resident whilst out walking their dogs comes across some Home Audio and TV equipment hidden in the wasteland inside the perimeters of our resort. However rather than report these findings by way of notifying the relevant authorities and consequently ruling out the possibility of catching the actual thief, they decide to say nothing and instead keep their so called lost treasure - Finder Keeper, Loser Weeper!

Personally I disagee but you can make your own minds up...................

Firstly Chris and Trace, may I say how sorry I am to read that you too have been burgled.

Big Brother. If you know who these people are have you reported them? I know I would.

I do wonder if these items were broken though. Maybe the owner could not be bothered to dispose of them in the correct way. Hope this was the case.

Hi New World. Having looked @ the web site details for the locks I see it’s aimed for the retailer not the individual buyer.  Could you let me know what make you purchased & where. Hopefully we can find something similar here in Wet & Windy Walsall

Thanks

Jan

Thanks Jan, it really gives you a bad feeling when this happens. Regarding big brothers comments I'm not blaming security because if the lowlife want to break in they will, you can only suggest that they start to check cars going out etc & be more vigilant and yes thefts happen everywhere but in the last week alone I hear there's been at least 6 burglaries in gardens 8 & 9. Not too sure if this is true though if it is then that's way above average.

if we know when the break-ins are happening can security provide a list of vehicles/persons  that have entered the complex during that period  it might help narrow down who the B******* are.

i'm coming over in a few weeks and i think i will bring some of these with me

http://www.lockshop-warehouse.co.uk/acatalog/jackloc-window-restrictor.html

these seem a good way of even securing your property even when you are living on site but want to go out and leave the windows slightly open

I think I've found a good solution for monitoring the property while I'm away even from my phone and get email alerts when this any movement even in the dark.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121087923887?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

These are fairly easy to set up (if you can set up an email client you should easily be able to set the email alerts up).

You plug into your router and enter the wifi settings after which you can disconnect the cable from the router.

Remote monitoring is by dynamic DNS and just gives you a URL to go to in any browser, but you will need to open a port on the router for this.

I can do this once I replace the router that was stolen of course and will be able to have a nice chat with the burglars next time as it also has two way audio from your phone app. I won't mention what I will say to them but it won't be pleasant!

By the way does anyone know if is there is an email address that is monitored by security so they can be copied in on the emails that get sent out by the camera?

The more of these we can fit the better and maybe we'll catch them next time!

The jackloc window restrictors are also on Amazon, which maybe is a bit easier for people to order. Not to sure about the ip camera, if someone does get in and they grab your router thats it, no film, and also you would need to leave your power and router on all the time you are away, which can be for a number of months for certain people. The best way is to put up as many physical barriers, so they will look for easier targets or give up. Has anyone checked why it seems it is only garden 8 and 9, are they an easier target, or less permanent residents or closer to the fence, easy enough to get a telly  and other small items through a fence, or is it by that gate, is that properly secured, hopefully Ml are checking this out.

Not sure the camera will work using DDNS, I use DDNS regularly at home but was not sucessful on CDA.

Try first to get to your router config page.

PTAN may be able to advise with more accuracy, he has a v good knowledge of the systems.

A2Z will of course provide a static at a cost.

Would an internal camera be of any value, the burglar would already be inside, so not a deterrent. Would the pic quality lead to identification & capture, I doubt it.

Visible locks, shutters etc would seem the best detterent, but, as someone said earlier, the thief would then move on to the less secure premises.

Not sure if this is worth mentioning but it has given me cause for thought.

My friend has an apartment on Costa del Sol, like Condado it is gated with security checks

About 5 months or so ago people were finding their apartments had been broken into & everything  that could be carried including TV`s were being taken.

One owner did some long & clever detective work & after a few weeks realised that over the same period of time & just a little before then, people were putting requests on their EOS page for an apartment to rent

Many owners responded & most gave their web addresses so these people could see the gaps in their calendars.

Nothing unusual about that, only research found that three “different “people never got back to anyone. Where they part of a group? were they casing the place?. Normally people put a reply on their thread to say thanks to all who responded but we have found some where now.

Towards the end of last year two such threads for holiday apartments were featured.   I responded by PM to both & I gave our web address. Neither has had the decency to reply either via a pm or EOS. Just a thought!! Were they genuine.

Jan
