 Hi everyone,

Having seen the terrible photos of the floods, I was wondering how Los Alcazares and Roda coped?

Not too bad at all here, Roda always copes well with heavy rains, not sure how it was in LA did not venture out.

Nothing like the problems on UK news that were all much further South nearer Malaga but I think it rained fro a few days down there, just the one day here and you would hardly notice now.

We only caught the tail end of the storm in Murcia. And our house in Almoradí survived - but not without some damage.

It rained costantly from 2am Thursday morning and then stopped for a while about 2pm Friday - but then the storm hit.

It hammered down for about an hour and I had water running down the walls in our bedroom, dining room, kitchen and naya (covered patio area). But the garage roof was just leaking like a sieve. I had to put 4 great big slashes into the awning to drain it as I was fighting a losing battle of trying to keep it water free. Each concertina bit was full of water (I reckon about 1 ton in each fold !!) and the supports bars were sagging about 10 inches. There was a serious danger that the weight of the water would rip it out of the wall and make it all collapse.

The patio itself - which is about 6" lower than the house - was over 5" deep in water and the house was in danger of being flooded. Plus there was a river of water running down the street about 6" deep.

The irrigation "canales", which normally only have about 6" of running water in them were about 5 ft deep as the water was just flooding OFF the fields into them.

So all in all a pretty scary time.

It took me about 2 hours to mop up once the rain stopped and it all settled down - and then I went to the pub for a large brandy !!

Oh my goodness Pommers - how awful for you...........I thought you being where you are would not have been so affected as those further South - I hope all is getting sorted. My prescription would have been a bottle rather than a glass of  brandy !!

Best wishes to you both

Sandra

Thanks Sandra & Hevs.

Now all dried out but probably need a new awning and will need to get someone in to look at the roof (again) as I think some tiles have slipped - hence the big leaks!

PS Couldn't have more than 1 brandy as I had to pick Hubs up from the airport at midnight !!!!

 Thanks hugh_man and pommers,

Glad Roda survived but sounds as if you had an awful experience pommers, hope you manage to get everything fixed.

Fingers crossed there are no more Gota Fria this year.

Jane

Sounds a horrible experience Pommers - why is your man not there when you need him?   Good job you were there to save your house - and survived to tell the tale.  Cats ok too I hope.
