Hi,

I usually book car hire from Alicante Airport through carjet, and I noticed this year with them that prices are much more expensive than they were last year - approaching double the price in fact. For example a Ford Focus or similar last year was about 75 Euros for the week and this year it's about 130 Euros.

Has anyone else who uses another booking website noticed this?

We allways use doyouspain.com - always good value, never been let down by them.

Hi Cappielow

Car Hire companies usually change their stock once vehicles reach certain age/mileage. However due to the credit crunch not all stock is being replaced.

Fewer cars=higher prices particularly at peak times.

Heard this third hand so cannot confirm how accurate the info is but it could explain the price increase.

Try travelsupermarket.com - i've just been looking for a car for a week in July and they were cheaper than Doyou which is where I normally get my car.

Hope this helps

We have booked this time through Hispacar.com.  They were about 60 euros cheaper than DoyouSpain for a similar car, a Ford Fiesta.  We have the voucher now and its for Centauro.

The only problem I have is that hire companies charge you nearly 50 euros for petrol for a Ford Fiesta, to re-fill the tank is only 30 euros.  I know you probably pay a premium but surley not this much!

Dave & Carol.

Hi Guys

Just returned home from a week at CDA on Friday past, it was great did not want to come back to UK.
We have been back and forth about 10 times and normally use CARJET but went with DOYOUSPAIN due to all the good press and they were slightly cheaper than CARJET.

The voucher was for Europacar and to my surprise the initial quoted price (120 euro) was blown out the water.
The extras were unbelievable. E.g. 700 euro bond for fully comprehensive or 21 euro a day insurance buy out, tax, full tank of fuel etc.
We took the 21 euro a day insurance to ensure we were covered.
The final bill was about 280 euro, we were not happy bunnies at all.

It was 11.30 at night and I complained to the member of staff at Europacar She was very uninterested and just kept saying read the small print all charges are shown in there.
There were lots of customers in the office at the time and the impression we got was that they can charge what they like as the demand is high.

We will certainly be shopping around again for our next trip. We will be trying the ones mentioned in your replies.

Kind Regards

Steve and Margaret

I think DYS use differant people. When we used them we ended up with Auriga who were OK and the only extra was the 3euros per day extra insurance. I think that anyone booking with DYS should see who they end up assigning the car with and if it 's someone like Europcar then cancel and use someone else.

Hi,

Just regarding the extra insurance you are all taking out have a look at insurance4carhire.com. Here you can take out the extra insurance for a year for £49.00

two weeks out in the sun and you have recouped your money especially where some of the car hire firms are charging just under 5 euros per day.

You could also try carhire3000.com here they guarentee to beat your cheapest quote plus you get a free 2nd driver and no creditcard charges. You still get ripped off on the fuel prices but this is how the carhire companys are making there money.

Worth looking at both!

Simon

Hi Steve and Margaret,

We've just booked through Do you Spain and have been told to collect from Goldcar rentals on the voucher, it then tells us about the fuel that we must return it empty as "europa"cannot refund the difference. Is this the same europa as europacar. We've had cars from Goldcar in the past and had no problems at all.

We always use economycarhire.com for our vehicles.

They are competative, offer their own insurance top up for glass/tyres etc which is far cheaper than the hire company.

Also, as a regular customer you get a 10% discount when you have 100 loyalty points, and they will then arrange a "full fuel" return for you.

We have used them for the past 12 months and their customer service is excellent.

Not always the cheapest but at least you know what you are getting.

Hi All,

My hubby is keeping quiet on this thread as his 'Yorkshireness' is giving us some hilarity.  We only need a small car on our next trip as there is only three of us coming out 2 adults 1 child(7years).  So hubby has booked with the car company advertising on EoS as it was saving us money but instead of a Citroen C2 as advertised we have been allocated a Matiz which has a hairdryer for an engine and an none existing boot, don't know where we are going to put our luggage and don't think we'll be doing much travelling about as it will take us forever to get there in a 1000cc car. We couldn't understand why this company was so cheap but when he got the confirmation it was  the bit  we have to meet this guy at the airport and he will take us in his van to our car that convinced us why they were a lot cheaper then anyone else , so if you don't hear from us again after the 5th July you know that we've been abducted.

Ali
