Photos from Friday's Easter procession in Ronda

We were in Ronda on Friday and managed to get the Easter procession coming through the town.  It was a glorious day there and the people in the procession must have been absolutely boiling under all those gowns!

Scary!
What is the significance of the hoods?

Fantastic photos, Justin! The coned hoods symbolise "a sort of rising towards the heavens and therefore this part of the Nazarenes’ dress is designed to bring their penitence closer to the heavens. It is also noted that in the same way, cone shaped shrubs, such as cypress trees, are used in Spanish cemeteries – to symbolically raise the dead towards the heavens". It's all really interesting. Thanks, Justin!

I was in Ronda last Easter, 2010 and I was fascinated! We have similar traditions in Malta. Thanks Justin!
