EOS Site Update Nº1
Friday, July 12, 2013 @ 8:22 PM

We have been working hard recently to make some improvements to the site and will be continuing to do so over the next month or so. The first improvement to be launched was a Blog Approval System for new blogs. This has been active for over a month or so and seems to have achieved its objective: filter out Spam Blogs. Any new blog now must be approved by us before going live on the site and must have at least one post for it to be approved. To date we have filtered numerous spam blogs and avoided them clogging up the latest blogs list, so sorry...no more posts on Canadian duck feather coats or the latest Japanese parts to tune your car!

Over the next month we will be launching new improvements and we will let you know as they go live.

Thanks

Eos Team

Damn! I woke up this morning after a hot sweaty night and the first ought in my mind was to get one of those Canadian duck-feather jackets!!!

No seriously, many thanks for this. It makes it so much easier for me to check whether my favourite bloggers have written a new installment. A good improvement :-)

I think another improvement would be to set a minimum post word count. Some 'blogs' just contain a couple of lines and a link to a news story. Call me old fashioned, but if I'm reading a blog post, I want to read what the writer has written, not what he - or she - has been reading.

I'd also like to see a function for blocking commenters whose only purpose is to attack the blog host and create arguments and bad feeling. I know we can delete comments, but some people just keep coming back with their nonsense. It would be great if we could block them from posting in the first place. After all, it's our blog, not theirs.

We are working on many improvements. The ones you mention have been contemplated and will be within the improvements to be launched shortly. Thanks for commenting

Agree entirely with Tamara and Sandra. Wish Gerald would comment here too as he had to deal with a lot of unpleasantness of late.
Get rid too of "news" blogs. Everyone nowadays has access to news via the media.
In truth the list is short of worthwhile bloggers IMO (to include Tamara, Sandra, Michael W. and a half dozen others...)

When you’re a blogger it is impossible to offer a balanced opinion as to worthiness of content. I do agree with others though. I would have thought a blog‘s primary purpose is to inform, entertain or share meaningful dialogue. I think some have trivialised it, which waters down the blog’s intent.
