Banks and non-resident certificate
Thursday, September 11, 2008 @ 8:52 AM

On the accreditation of non residency which is being asked by Banks:

www.eyeonspain.com/blogs/realestate/518/britons-hit-by-tax-blitz-on-spanish-homes.aspx

I would  advise you to proceed this way:

1.- Fax  your Bank in Spain to ask for this regarding you and your account.
2.- Apply for the non residency certificate
3.- Send a new  fax to the Bank´s branch manager with a copy of the application for non-residency certificate.

There is no way for the Bank to freeze the accounts if you preventively act this way.

Thursday today. Autumn coming. I love it!

Hi Maria,
are you saying that even if you already have an NIE from 3 or 4 years ago that you have to apply for a new one?

regards,
Paul

Paul,

It is not a NIE, it is a certificate of non residency.

Best,

Maria

Maria

We have received notification from the bank in Spain regarding this certificate.
We are in Spain next week can we get this done whilst we are there or should we be sorting this out before we go ?

Regards Christina & Robert

Thank you. Sorry to take so long to say thank you but I have just got home from work. I thought this could be done at the Bancaja Bank.

Steve.

I believe you need your passport and NIE number but I am not 100%. Hopefully Maria will come back to confirm.

Hi All

Whilst not doing it for an existing account, I have just done it for a new account.

I was in Spain a few weeks ago and tried to open a new bank account(as my apartment completes in the next few weeks) they said they couldn't open one for me unless I had the certificate of non-residence. They printed off the application form for me (you need 2 copies per person) and you need to take a copy of your passport, the guy in the bank said you needed to copy your whole passport not just the photo page.

We then took this to the "delightful" denia office (where we queued outside in the sun for 5 hours!)

We applied, then got sent to the bank to pay (can't remember exactly but approximate 8Euros each I think.) They didn't take the copy of the whole passport in the end, so guess the bank got it wrong.

They said come back in a week and pick up the forms, we then need to take them to the bank.

We couldn't pick them up as we were only there for a few days but someone will pick them up for us and take them to the bank who will then formally open our account.

Hope this helps a little...
