OwnersAway Property Rentals

The highs & lows, ups & downs of running a property rentals business near Mojon Hills on the Costa Calida

Rental Market Moving Up
Friday, February 25, 2011

Have just successfully let one of our lovely villas on a long term contract this afternoon, and several more holiday bookings came through as well. This year, as ever, we are still short of large villas with private pools to let to our holidaymakers, many of whom now come back each year to sample a different villa!

Camposol remains as popular as ever, and the rental market there for large homes with pools is strong. If anyone out there has a good potential rental villa on Sector B we´d love to take it on.. once again I´m turning away bookings for this very popular part of Camposol, as we never have enough large homes to accommodate all the enquiries we get.

At the moment we are getting a steady stream of booking enquiries, and the volume is around double that we received in 2010. This is a function of the slow return to Spain by UK holidaymakers, the return from the end of March of Ryanair into our regional airport San Javier and the fact that as a company our profile and reputation is steadily increasing.

So far, so good... 2011 looks set to be a good year for the rental side of our business.

Some Like It Hot!
Friday, February 25, 2011

A week of brilliant sunshine and unseasonable warm weather has brought a smile to many faces. This week, despite the Frbruary gloom in the UK, we had highs in the 20´s here in Puerto de Mazarrón. And with the sun arrive the strange sights.

Driving back from checking one of our villas in Mojon Hills, I was greeted by the sight of a large lady in a bikini standing at the side of the road, by a camper van! Hardy folk these Northern Europeans! Whilst it might feel warm to some, those of us that live here do quickly acclimatise, and I have to confess I´m now a fully paid up member of the "hat, scarf & heating"  brigade until around the end of March.

Unfortunately the long range forecast tells me that we are in for cooler weather for the first week in March, but at least all our holidaymakers over for Feb half term have had wonderful weather to remember. Last year, February was a month of storms, freezing weather and constant rain, to 2011 has gotten off to a very promising start indeed.

Have a good day, wherever you are..

Hasta Pronto

Let there be lights!
Monday, February 21, 2011

A lovely start to the week this week, shopping for a lighting pack for some new clients. Our Spanish supplier Ana always wants to chat, and it´s a great opportunuty to practise my technical Spanish. I have to say when I started night school in Scotland over 6 years ago, vocab such as "circuit breaker" , "uplighter" and "spotlights" didn´t feature in the weekly lessons!

Every day brings new challenges, one of which is getting my tounge around the words in the correct order! But practicse really DOES make perfect, so if you are having lessons, hang in there and don´t give up.. use it every chance you get!

As it is nearly 2pm, I have to dash to collect the kids from their school, Siglo XXI in the port, and then a spot of lunch before going back into the office later on. The working day here takes a bit of getting used to, as does the fact that many places still close for siesta from 2pm until 5pm. Ah, the slower pace of life..it has a lot to recommend it.

We have clients over for Feb half term, so a busy week for us, and luckily the weather is holding with the lovely mild winter continuing. Long may it last.

Hasta Pronto!

Liz
