Until recently it was possible for your solicitor to apply for this on your behalf but the rules were changed and now you have to apply in person.  Our solicitor was going to send someone with us at the cost of 200 euros to get the NIE number - so we did it ourselves!!  2 visits to Orihuela and about £10!4 Passport copies (of the back pages per person )

 

Most NIE offices take at least 8 weeks to process the paperwork and issue the NIE number so you need to go twice.

We use Global Currency Exchange and Moneycorp to send our money from the UK to Spain.  They are both excellent - free - and so far, fingers crossed their rates have been unbeatable.

Not sure how far it is from where you are but Almoradi is the "furniture town" for the Alicate/Murica region.  Great choice and reasonable prices - but stay clear of La Muebleria - they rip you off!!!

I agree it gets very very cold at times.  We have bought 2 oil filled radiators and we ask our key holders to put them on for us the morning we are going to arrive (if its cold) - we also bought a fire basket for the chimney and once the log fire is burning the whole bungalow heats up beautifully.  Finally our airconditioning unit (put in by www.robinhoodpropertyservicesspain.com) is also a heater and warms up the lounge area in no time!

Glad to hear that the entrance facility is coming along - lets hope we can get it manned!  It is a shame that the main road is a public one, or we could have security put in place the same as La Manga Golf Resort where there are very few thefts. 

We used http://www.robinhoodpropertyservicesspain.com for our airconditioning and grills.  They were excellent and very reasonable at the side of some of the prices I have heard from other La Finca residents.  Our unit outside is well placed and not hung right on the main wall with great ugly cables like some of the La Finca installations!!!  I must admit some of them are a true eyesore!
