Poetry About Spain - "Apartment Living"

A code of conduct for apartment living,
Respecting others' different routines,
A major virtue is being forgiving,
And always keeping your area clean.

The screech of chairs, my teeth they grind,
Trit trot of heels torture you slow,
Invasive sounds, front and behind,
A pounding head that never goes.

Sharing space, wall to wall,
Does not allow for privacy,
Must bite your tongue and keep your cool,
To ensure the best of intimacy.

The problems lie where routines clash,
This leads to the sleep deprivation,
They're rising early just to earn some cash,
But they're movements show no consideration.

Always a rumble from above or below,
Wet afternoons spent naming the sounds,
Like reality radio, with no faces on show,
Just footprints that stomp on the ground.

Just like you, they can't help the noise,
But try not to be too open,
Raised just a little your voice,
Reveals every word that it is spoken.

Can't help it but their lives you share,
Get to know the faces of lovers,
Must give a wave and show you care,
An ability to get to know others.

Practical problems, no loft to store,
High time to hang up some shelves,
Tired of tripping over stuff on the floor,
But neighbours hate do it yourself!

Where do you put all that stuff, you've outgrown?
No room to place odds and ends,
An Englishman's castle is his home!
Bare floors and no things, we must mend.

What happened to all the chintzy, patterned fare?
Everything now must have some grand use,
Replaced by apartments all stark and bare,
Cushions and drapes, you know, you must lose.

Carpets and comfy, we all secretly love,
Making your home a cosy retreat,
Peace and some quiet, no noise from above,
Walls in winter that radiate heat!

But life on one level can make for less stress,
Quench a thirst quicker in the mid of the night,
Another plus is there's less space to mess,
And a need to dejunk with so much more on sight.

Apartment living in Spain holds something unique,
Much easier accepting the flaws,
More time spent out on sunny streets,
No need to stay locked up indoors!
