Hi,

We looked around the Alacala La Real area and have to say found it to be a bit scruffy, and not very pleasing to the eye. However we did see the odd nice village but they were near very industrial places, we ended up in the Las Alpujarras region of Valor in a tiny hamlet of Nechite which only has 52 residents but is a 10 minute drive from Valor and Ugijar that has all the shops and bars etc and 50 mins from the coast in Almeria.

We found the Las Alpujarras a lot more picturesque and it is truly spanish and like going back 100 years in time, if you are taking a look at area,s have a look at the website Jimenez and Partners who have some lovely properties.

If you do fancy taking a look at the Las Alpujarras region I have a bed and breakfast called Casa De Los Santos which you are welcome to stay at our website is www.casadelossantos.co.uk

Hope you find what you are looking for

20 October 2009:

We have just comeback from yet another trip searching for property in Spain, we had been let down on three other properties due to them been  built on rustic land and access been in question. My husband and I were starting to feel let down and demotivated as we wanted a character property in the authentic spain.

So we made the decision to start looking at village properties and came across a beautiful village by the name of Nechite near to the village of Yegen and Valor, it is very picturesque and has all the modern amenities of medical centre, small bank, lovely bars and restaurants.

A lot of Spanish people go there for holidays especially if they enjoy walking/hiking and the beautful outdoor surroundings, the villages have a small ex pat community that all look after each other and the locals are the friendliest we have ever come across.

We are just waiting on a beautiful village house( full of character, chesnut beams, loads of nooks and crannies and renovated to an exceptional high standard) to go through at the moment so fingers crossed  and its got internet access and a landline so I am able to run my business from there.

So this hopefully will be a very happy spain experience

Hi All,

Wonder if someone could answer something for me, I have been looking at getting a mortgage for a holiday home a bank have come back to me which is great. But looking on their website it states that they can only lend as long as the property is not your permanent residence which is fine for now.

But what happens should you decide later down the line to make it your permanent residence?????

Regards

Rob

Hi Martin,

Just read your thread, I too am a Business Development Consultant that specialises in the Recruitment , HR, markets. I have a friend that has lived in Spain for many years and she has advised me to continue working with my UK clients from Spain, as there is no way in a month of Sundays that I will earn 45k plus in Spain.

In order to get ANY decent work in Spain you must be fluent in the language, unless you want to work in a bar or restaurant on the coast

Regards

Mandy
