Thank you so much Foxbat for all the information. It gives us plenty of options to consider and some pointers as to where to start. The road tax and mot are not an issue at the moment, they're both valid until the end of July, however, we would need to get the van back to the uk before this anyway as it will have been here six months in mid May. If we could keep the van here it would be our preferred option, as it's still a fantastic runner apart from the recent problem, and we're reluctant to fork out loads on an unknown second hand car here. We will look further into the window issue, we had at one point thought of converting the van into a camper, to use for exploring further afield, and may investigate that further too.

Again, thanks to both yourself and Roberto for the advice.

Thread: Disposing of a RHD van in Spain - is this possible?

Thanks for the reply Roberto.

We had considered trying to sell it here, but now there's a problem with it that may be even harder than it would be if it was all ok.

The van is a panel van, but there is the option to change the two sliding side doors to ones with windows. We did consider this but didn't know if this would then enable us to get the van changed to Spanish plates or not, as the registration document would still show it as a light goods vehicle. Do you know if it would be possible to get it re-registered, if there were windows in the side doors? If we could get it re-registered it would be worth spending the money to fix it and keep it here.

Thanks.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here although I've been reading the boards for ages.

We have a problem with our RHD Citroen Dispatch van that we used to bring some things over from the UK to our house in Extremadura. We were due to be taking it back to the uk between March-May when we will have had it here for approx 6 months. However, the van has now developed some problems with the brakes and as we really don't want the expense (unknown) of getting this fixed (even if we could manage to explain the situation to a garage in the first place with our limited Spainish. Our reasons are that the extra expense of this, plus the taking it back to the uk, would probably cost all that the van would be worth when we take it back and sell it, (taking into account the cost of getting it back there, the accomodation when in the uk and then having to fly back).

The van has been fantastic up until now, and isn't really ready for the scrap heap, but we're on a limited budget and it seems a lot of hassle to take it back and spend everything we'll get for it doing that.

I know we're in a different part of Spain to most on this forum, but does anyone know whether, in general, it is possible to scap a vehicle in Spain, and how do we go about this? The other alternative is to get a garage to take it off our hands, but we doubt they'd be interested in a RHD van that needs work doing to it.

If anyone can offer any advice, we'd be very grateful.

Thanks.

Sharon
