 To those who are considering buying property at this time in Spain - DO NOT.

Here in Ireland so called experts have been proclaiming year after year - since 2008/9 - property prices have bottomed out. 

They were wrong. Property prices are still falling. Houses have dropped by 50% approx and apartments by 65% approx from their height in 2007.

Yes, we must be near the bottom - but this phrase has been used so often during the last 4/5 years one cannot be sure.

Now, do any of you out there believe Spanish property prices have bottomed out? 

Or, with regard to property prices falling more or not, is Spain different to Ireland?

I don't.

P.S. Spain and Ireland will still have one thing in common in the years ahead - both countries will remain in the Euro.

I got Alex to fit the ICP in January in my Las Chapas, La Reserva de Marbella apartment.

His service was superb.

He arrived on time on the appointed day.

(No - I am not on commission from him!).

Hi Paddy

The advice given so far is very good. I own a 2 bed apartment near Marbella.

I would make one observation - the outdoor pools are generally not heated so are really only useful for 6 months of the year - for us adults!

However my grand children have just come back from my Marbella apartment and were in the pool every day. The young ones don't notice the water temp unlike us adults!

I live 30Km from Dublin in the Royal County & work in West Dublin and I agree with those who say you should rent your Dublin home initially. Rentals just now are good in Dublin for home owners.

Interesting the positive comments about Halifax, they have opened in Maynooth near where I live (Kilcock). I must call into them.

I've tried a number of different banks over the years in the CDS and finally found one that has excellent service at reasonable cost and all paperwork is in the english language - it is the Solbank at La Cala de Mijas branch. (I believe all Solbank branches have multi lingual staff).

I've had problems insuring my apartment using the conventional brokerage route and then I found Solbank offered this service. The cover I got was better and the cost of insurance less than what I was paying.

Hope this is of interest to those who reside in the Royal County!
