Hi Mark, for a family friendly beach I think the Mar Menor is fantastic and I would recommend staying near Los Alcazares.

Perhaps the best urbanisation in the area to stay would be Roda Golf.  There are plenty of apartments to rent at very good prices and the resort is really well maintained.  You will also be able to use the communal pool, however please be careful as to which pool you are allowed to use.

As you daughter is 3 years old the sea at the Mar Menor is wonderful (and just 5 mins drive) and shallow and some of the communal pools have areas suitable for paddling / play.  There is nromally a funfair opposite the urbanisation but it can be expensive.

Please also make sure that the apartment has air con as you will need it in the summer.

Downside is that it may be near Murcia?

Get your rackets from decathlon, their own brand "artengo" are pretty good quality at a reasonable price.  I once tried to smuggle a racket in a holdall and was caught out  - it cost me 40 euros to take it to Spain.

Hi Jek - whilst I understand your arguments about the dangers of intervention and the subsequent long-term problems that it may cause, I'm struggling to think of an example where simply allowing human right abuses to continue indefinitely and unchecked is a better solution.

It's estimated that 17 million Russians died under Stalin and 30 million Chinese under Mao.  Hitler killed around 6 million Jews before he was stopped.

It could also be argued that European imperialism was the cause of a great many of the present global tribal and religious difficulties.  of course this was unchecked.

My main concern is that the UK doesn't try and take too much on itself.  I think that it's about time that other responsible nations did their bit.
