Hi, the decision as to wether bringing your mother to Spain is clearly a very sensitive one and I am sure you will take all issues into consideration, clearly being with loveones and receiving consistant care must outweigh a lot of other issues. Without being selfish , you do have a life as well.  I am unsure if your statement that you cannot claim attendance allowance is correct. I understand that the deptartment of work & pensions that deals with this issue have an ''exportability team' which specifically deals with this issue. If you are currently claiming in the UK I believe you can continue to claim as long as you are relocating to another EU member state. In fact I look after an elderly English gentleman (89 yrs)  who lives alone in our village. He relies on my wife and I for extensive support from shopping, doctors trips, social intergration, housekeeping etc. He applied (with our assistance) for attendance allowance from the UK benefits system despite living in Spain. This application is being processed as we speak but we have been informed that despite not living in the UK he is able to receive the benefit as long as he is not receiving a similar benefit from the Spanish government, and why not the man has worked from 14 yrs old to 70 years old paying his national Insurance for 56 years.

Thanks all for your advise so far,

I suppose one benefit I have is that I do not earn any money in Spain and therefore during the 6 years we have lived here have not completed a Spanish Tax return, only time I have paid tax is through a property sale transaction.

HI ALL

Just some clarification required

We are Spanish residents and have been for 6 years

We have a second home in the UK and understand that as we have been non resident in the UK for more than 5 fiscal years we are not liable to pay UK capital gains tax on the sale of our second home there.

Can anybody advise if we have a Tax liability in Spain for the sale of our home in the UK ?

WALK FOR PRUNA - SEVILLE, SPAIN

Organisers of a sponsored marathon walk along the Via Verde ''Greenway'' aim to make it an annual fundraising event. The 43.5km or 27mile trek will raise much-needed funds to purchase equipment for a New Youth Club in the village.

On April 28th the group of local residents and holiday home owners of the village will don their sturdy shoes and boots and set off from Puerto Serrano, Cadiz along the Via Verde and are expected to arrive eight hours later at the village of Pruna in Seville. They will pass through some of the most spectacular scenery in Andalucia including the Penon de Zaframagon nature reserve, home to the impressive community of Griffin Vultures. The route also goes over four viaducts and through as many as 30 tunnels, one of which is 1km long.

The walkers will all wear themed t-shirts and caps for the duration of the marathon walk thanks to support from the Via Verde Association who will also provide a number of refreshment stations, placed every 8km to sustain the walkers along the route and where necessary provide medical support to prevent dehydration and blisters.

The town hall in Pruna are also right behind the venture providing Coach transfers for walkers to the start at Puerto Serrano Station from Pruna, and returning at the end. Fransisco Lopez Sanchez, Mayor has pledged the funds raised through sponsorship will be used to buy much needed equipment for the New Pruna Youth Club.

David Sharp, a resident of the village, said: “There is a lot of support from local community, as well as the official bodies. We are confident it will be a great success and help put the Via Verde , and the towns of Pruna, Puerto Serrano, Coripe and Olvera firmly on the tourist map. I have no doubt this will become an annual event raising much needed funds for local good causes.”

There is still time for walkers and sponsors to sign up and support the event. There is a €5 fee to join the walk which this year will be donated to the New Pruna Youth Club.

Just to advise all,

you CAN get a UK plated car ITV'd in Spain, it is done on the chassis number, in fact you cannot reregister a car onto Spanish Plates unless you  1) Have an ITV, 2) Pay the import Tax (if applicable) if you obtain a Baja Consula from The British Counsular you may not have to pay 3) The Vehicle has a European Certificate of Conformity (or Technical document from certified engineer) 4) Pay the Spanish Road Tax 5) You go through those hoops then apply for a Spanish Matricula at the traffic office.
