Hi

I'm sure someone will have posted on this previously - but I'm looking for any specific advice for options on Non-resident Spanish Bank account with minimal admin, charges.

I have an account with Lloyds (now Sabadell), originally Halifax.   I don't do anything fancy with it at all - simply maintain a balance of a couple of hundred Euros to pay Debit Directs.  I avoid landing charges on transfers from UK by simply topping up the balance in cash as and when we are out in CDA, using the local branch in Mazaron.

Sabadell have announced that they are increasing the admin charges on the account to somwhere around 25 euros a quarter, and I wanted to know if anyone has any advice on other banks (ideally with branch close to CDA) which are cheaper options.  I don't need internet banking, credit card etc - just the bog standard current account for a few DD's.

I know that most Spanish banks will charge an admin fee, but I'm starting to resent paying 100-odd euros a year for an account with 3 direct debits on it... in fact the bank costs are in danger of becoming our 2nd largest outlay (after the community fees)!

I've tried Santader UK (as I have accounts here) - and they can't seem to help, but I've read somewhere that Santander Spain offer an account with a "low" admin rate... which would be a preference given the branch in Campasol and others in Mazaron town & port.   Bank Inter also seem to offer something similar, but their website is next to useless and I can't see any fees listed.

Anyone got any advice that they can share.. and ideally any info on the different costs for other banks?

Thanks

Russ

Does anyone happen to know of an email address or telephone no.  for the council offices in the Al Kasar (the one next to ML)?   I need to contact them regarding our local council bill which I paid in the office on 31/08 - but we have received another note (dated 14/09/11) requesting the payment,.  Hopefully the 2 have just crossed over, but I wanted to drop them a note to confirm as we are not due out again until the spring.

Cheers

Russ

All

I don't know if this will help, but we had the WISI  box supplied by PW last summer. We were having a few issues with the box freezing (displaying "Boot" then just sticking) and the remote was playing up at times.   We were out a couple of weeks back, so I dropped PW telecom an email - just on the off-chance, and never really expected to hear back from them (the usual PW experience).  But, to my surprise, a Telecom engineer turned up out of the blue a couple of days into our holidays, took one look at the Wisi box, said that there were known faults with it, and swapped it for a different model there and then (he had it in his van).

We've not yet had a chance to try the new box out much, but clearly there have been lots of complaints with the set-top box they were giving out previously - so it may be worth an email to them to see if you can get the same amount of joy...

I echo al o f the responses so far - having a "10 year building guarentee" sounds great, but when PW wo'nt respond to emails / calls/ web requests for over a year, it means nothing.. and as ever the only recourse seems to be to either fix the problem ourselves (and shoulder the cost) or pursue PW through the courts as a collective community and try to get them to honour the guarentee.

Our insurance company (Zurich) provided us with a written survey cadvising the the samp in our apartement (actually it floods with heavy rain) is caused by a lack of proper water proofing and drainage and that they have observed teh same problems in other apts on CdA - but even that doesn't seem to be enough to get PW to take action.

It's difficult to tell if PW are deliberately ignoring the issue, or are just so shamolicallyorganised that they genuinely can't reoslve the problem,  but that doesn't help inthe short term.

We won't give up though!

Community thread: Damp Problems

Tony

All PW customer services have said is that "they don't currently have any workmen on site in CdA to look at this problem" and aren't sure when they will..  Perhaps people are reading too much into that, but irresptive of their motives, PW seem to have an obligation to resolve what our insurance company report states is a defect...

Milenium are also saying that the cause of the problem is PW responsibility to fix but under the community insruance Axa will fix the effects (in our case this means them dabbing a bit of emulsion on the walls where damp pataches are now showing - not really what I'm worried about!).. This is an extract from an email Milenium  sent to us :-

" However, since we could include your building insurance with AXA through the community, we can help you and all the other owners with his matter.  In fact, we know that his kind of problem is automatically rejected by the insurances companies, but we are working to get Axa repair the inside damages.  The inspections are currently being done and the workers will come in further days.."

I'm not really bothered about trying to understand PW's motives (have given up trying to second guess anything they ever do), but I am interested in trying to get them to resolve an issue which it seems they have a legal obligation to do.  As has already been posted on this thread, it seems that the best chance we have of making them do that is to get everyone affected together and tackling it as a collective via the Community and/or adminstrators - if that means taking action (or  threatening it) then thats what we need to do.

My question is how do we get this onto the appropriate agenaa for discussion an agreement?  There seem to be alot of people agreeing to this course of action, but debating it on this forum isn't going to achieve much !

Thanks

Russ
