About Benalmadena in Spain
Benalmadena is situated on the Costa del Sol in Spain, nesteled between the towns of Fuengirola and Torremolinos. Benalmadena has been a hugely popular location over the years attracts thousands of tourists all year round.
Over the years Benalmadena has grown significantly as a sencond-home destination
and enjoys a real diversity of cultures. Some may feel that the high-rise
apartments dating back to the early tourist days seem to shout "package tourist"
but this is not so. Benalmadena is full of life with friendly residents from
all walks of life all soaking up the great feel of the place.
The Areas of Benalmadena
Benalmadena is generally considered to be comprised of three main areas:
Benalmadena Costa
This encompasses the part of Benalmadena stretching along the sea front. This is
the area that has seen the most development over recent years due to it's popularity
and proximity to the sea. It's also where you'll find the popular Port of
Benalmadena.
Benalmadena Pueblo
Pueblo means "town" in Spanish and this area is the original origin of Benalmadena.
This is a typical Andalucian village a short drive up the mountain from the coast.
Benalmadena Pueblo enjoys some spectacular views from it's prime location.
The pueblo has become increasing popular with holiday home buyers over the last
few years.
Arroyo de la Miel
In total contrast to Benalmadena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel is quite a modern town
with it's own train station and also hosts some of the more popular attractions
in the area, such as Tivoli World, TeleCabina and Selwo Marina. Every time
I've been to Arroyo de la Miel it's always been really busy. It's a really
lively place to be.
Things to do in Benalmadena
One thing's for sure....you cannot get bored in Benalmadena. We've been living
in Spain for over three years now and never get tired of popping into Benalmadena
for the day, there's just so much to do there.
Benalmadena Marina
A visit to Benalmadena would not be complete without a visit to the popular Benalmadena
marina, also known as "Puerto Benalmadena" or "Puerto de Benalmadena". It's
a thriving marina boasting some great bars and restaurants. You can even jump
on one of many boat rides that operate daily to go and see the dolphins out in the
bay.
Tivoli World
Tivoli World which is based in Arrory de la Miel is a smaill amusement park hugely
popular with local residents. Apart from some great rides (which have been
put in new recently) they have live shows in the evening and it's just great for
the kids. Not one to do in the summer though unless you go in the evening
which is much better as there is a much better atmosphere there at night.
Selwo Marina
We went to Selwo Marina last summer and nearly died in the heat watching the dolphin
show! Don't let that put you off though, Selwo Marina is a great place to
spend the day with the kids. There are some superb animals and shows that
make it a great day out for all the family. Check opening times before you
go!
Telecabina
The Telecabina in Benalmadena is one ride we still haven't tried. It's a cable
car that starts off in Arroyo de la Miel, just beside Tivoli World and takes you
right up into the mountains. It looks quite scary just looking at it from
the road but I'm told it's worth. Will have to try this one soon and report
back!
Bars and Restaurants
When you're on holiday food and drink is an important part of it! Benalmadena
is not short of some excellent bars and restuarants ranging for the traditional
sea food to the classic British breakfast! It's all good and you'll be spoilt
for choice.
Weather in Benalmadena
Based on the Costa del Sol what is there to say about the weather! Glorious
sunshine for most of the year although some would say that it gets a little too

The Torrequebrada golf course is one of the earliest golf courses on the Costa del
Sol and it's popularity has only ever increased over the years. A round of
golf at Torrequebrada golf course would set you back around 75 Euros in peak season.
