Police in Spain are impounding Gibraltar registered cars
The Comments |
I saw this article in the Olive Press about Spanish Police impounding and fining Spanish owners for owning Gibraltar registerd cars. Looks like it isn't just the Brits who think they can get away with keeping their UK car in Spain out of limits!! Makes me wonder though, are cars cheaper in Gibraltar? Otherwise, what is the point?

The law is the law and if you don’t like it go live somewhere else. How would you feel if you or a family member were run down by an illegal foreign car who’s insurance was invalid?

Why do you (and othes) have to be so confrontational all the time? Is it a ploy to try and prevent others from posting in fear their thread will be taken over by the argumentative side? Why can't you just answer a question uncontroversially, or even ignore it if there is nothing constructive?
I am well aware of the law on imported cars thank you. I was merely stating that as well as the Brits who like to bring their cars over and drive them illegally on UK plates whilst resident, it seems the Spanish do it too, on the Gibraltar border. I then asked what the reasons could be for them doing it when the consequences would be known.
All that needed was a civil answer, not the bolshy response that was received.

Thank you Marksfish and I accept your criticisms to my post. My appologies.
The days of doing things in ignorance have long gone. Brits or Spanish with illegal cars know exactly what they are doing; they just don’t care if they kill your wife, your grandchildren or anyone else. Anything to save a € and buy another pint.
I do believe crime and punishment are now a mismatch.

I am almost 100% certain that vehicle insurance in the EU is valid 3rd party in the whole of the EU for the whole period of the policy.
I am pretty sure too that the insurance on vehicles of those registered as resident in spain, driving vehicles registered outside spain, is still valid, albeit that doing so is illegal.
