licences and taxes for growing veg on own land

I have 4,700 square metres of land not attached to my house,just down lane.It started life as an orange orchard but for the last year my spanish nieghbour and i have cultivated half of the land with some veg and corn.It is only for family and friends use.and not for sale but we have heard that we could be breaking some laws as we have to prove this,does anyone know about this issue,
