Hi

I am new to the forum and I have just bought a ground floor apartment in Garden 1. It’s air conditioning is "pre installation" so I intend to bring the parts with me when I come over at Easter. Does anyone know the specifications of the pre installation so I can buy the correct parts to bring with me.

Also I was intending to book two 2.2m high pallet services for £150 each. Is the best way to ship our furniture etc. over?

Thank you

Gary

Why would you bring AC from the UK when it is actually cheaper to buy it form either the electrical wholesalers or DIY places like Bricodepot in Spain

How are you going to get the necessary gas here when strictly speaking you wont be allowed to carry it on the tunnel or ferry

Yep, go local to CDA as they know the problems that tend to arise with installations in the resort which can be tricky to resolve. You are looking at around £2000 for a decent job.

and of course you get a guarantee, if you are renting nothing worse than the AC packing up and the renter wanting to move out, it will cost you more than you can save

Must agree, pointless bringing AC units over from the UK. I fit and repair air con and cannot buy the units in the UK as cheaply as here. I fitted three Panasonics on Condado a couple of weeks agp and have fitted other makes there before. There can be problems with the pre instalation although on the ones I have done they have not been too bad to solve It's normally down to not having any wiring or not having enough wires, but like I said it';s not normally too bad to sort out

We just had a quote from CAMPOSOL HEATING  (Kevin Hicks at 700 euros.)  for one unit . Im not technical but understand at Condado  "Pre Installed" means all The wiring and pipeing and cables are installed ready for AC units to be installed.

I think regulations have now changed and Inverters are required...whatever that means/.

Hi ,
Thank you for your email. All air con units now have to be inverter type and the smallest unit is now circa €700! All prices are subject to survey but this gives you a good idea. With regard to pay as you go for rental users, we can offer a secondary electricity meter for around €220. This is where the tennants are given cards for the meter so it is pay as you go.
Please feel free to contact us a week or so before you arrive to discuss.
Kind Regards
Kevin Hicks

Hi you are correct the regulations have now changed or are changing at the end of this month so  you can only fit inverters which are cheaper to run and more efficient. There are still non inverter units available but in the main these will be older stock as the industry in Spain has known the regulations were due to change so most suppliers stopped buying in non inverters (also known as on off units) The pre instaltion is the pipeowrk and wiring that you should have already installed within the fabric of the building. On Candado the pipework is normally good, but the wiring can be a bit hit and miss. It's not normally a problem, it just means running a couple of new cables through the conduit that is already there. The last units I fitted on Condada cost 570 euros each for bedroom inverters supplied and fitted and 625 euros for the lounge inverter. If you are renting the property out for holiday rentals it would be a good idea to fit some type of device to stop people abusing the air con. I fit a "boost" switch which controls all of the units via a relay fitted into the consumer unit. Basically what this is, is a small device the same size as a light switch which limits the time the air con can be run for. You push the button once to run the AC  for quarter of and hour twice for half hour, three times for an hour and four times for 2 hours. After the two hours or at any time you are there, you can push the switch again and run it again, but it stops people from going out for the day and leaving the AC running which is a problem when you have holiday renters in. There is also a version which allows the Ac to be run for up to 4 hours at a time. I can also fit the card meters but don't really like them as your guests gave to buy "credit" to run the air con. With the time switch you can still advertise the property as having air con, with the card meters you can only advertise it as being available at extra cost. Hope this answers your questions

Hi

Thank you for all your replies. I think I will bring a small portable unit over when I come over in Easter and look in to it more when I am there. The boost switch sounds like a very good idea.

Cheers

Gary

Hi Chris,

Thats good information . I will keep your details on file as we are getting rough estimates. Im sure the post was useful to a few people regarding the new regulations on Air Con Units.

Hi, we are using a company called climatorre in Torrevieja, much closer than Alicante, check out their web page on climatorre.com, best prices for top service, we have installed some 45 apartments with them and so far no problem. I must admit I think anybody out of the area will not be able to offer good reliable service, luckily we are in Los Alcazares and are on the golf resorts daily. It is always worth getting a few quotes to see how prices compare.
