Must say that I was surprised to find a sign on the ball machine on the Driving Range informing that the golf course and practise facilities are closed from Monday 12th to Monday 19th due to maintenance. Being biased due to the fact that we planned for two weeks in Condado this September, I was more than displeased. Since we arrived we have had two days where the ball machine has been out of commission. And now no practise or play for the last week of our stay. I have some experience in running a golf course, but this I have never seen or heard of before. I do not know what the maintenance plans are, but I do know that if you did something like that during season in Norway you would be immediately fired....although the season is of course limited there.

Having been a sincere member of the half full crew I am considering shifting sides now. Is there a 3/4 empty crew ?

Sorry to sound harsh, but I`ve actually held back..

It is necessary to do this work twice a year and it happens on all courses in this area. There has been a notice on the society notice board for a couple of months warning us of the dates.

I am arranging awaydays next week for anyone needing a fix of golf. Monday is Hacienda del Alamo (42.50e with buggy). Wednesday will be Saurines de la Torre which is Olagolf and will be same price as Condado. There is a list in the golf shop if you want to play. Friday is to be decided but I will post info on the board at weekend.

Barry

Nilpla,

I read with keen interest you are considering joining our crew! I am sure its a decission you will not regret and I hope you will be as miserable as we are! I will get you an application pack out in the post. I need 3 references from responsible people confirming that you can moan and complain!

After that its a simple interview then you can get your membership card and your choice of free gifts, either:-

1) A chineese Laser pen that you can shine back at the ferrel kids in Garden 13 when they try to blind you.

or

2) A Jose Luis Hernandez dart board cover.

The membership card has a picture of Victor Meldrew, our patron, but I gotta say they are pretty rubbish, like the door handle in the clover, or the table cloths in the restaurant! However I expect it will arrive before the sports bar, clubhouse, and Peppa Pig Park.

New memeber are always welcome

Darren, I was both hoping for and expecting a reply from you. My thread was produced while being quite upset.

I accept that somewhere I should have been able to spot this event, but I am still argueing that it is completely unnecassaary. I have been running a golf course of solid stature, and it would have been unconceivable to shut down the course while money could have been made! My point is that our resort is doing nothing to attract visitors nor buyers. We do have a brilliant place and a brilliant golf course with the best practise facilities I have ever seen. But there has been done nothing , and I really mean nothing, to promote this wonderful place.

Seems to me that the owners of the land are all waiting for the Paramount Park to do all the work for them. We do love the place, but I have to say that my patience has been streched. The staff on the golf course are far from being sellers, and I  feel like being a neusance to these people as well. As some of you may remember we paid "top dollar" to become owners of this fantastic resort, and we were definately cut short.

My point, however, is that you do not have to close down the course and the practise facilities to do maintenance! I just do not accept that. So even if we have been warned; we do live on a golf resort. And it needs to be kept open!

We will of course have to spend our money elsewhere, and this time, with no regrets. Sorry, just too annoyed..

Nilpa, you must resist the urge to go over to the 'dark side'. Remember the force will always be with you - 'be the ball' , 'be the ball'

and of course a half empty glass is never as tasty as one that is half full

Darren Wilkes please forward your application form asap, I'm in your particular "zone " right now and am looking forward to my free gift arriving no earlier than Jan 2013. (gives me something else to complain about).

The laser pen will come in very handy when Paramount opens and CDA is full of noisy kids, also pointing up to the constant planes flying over. When sitting in traffic jams trying to get out of CDA due to Paramount (3>5 million visitors) pointing it in drivers eyes who didn't let me out -  I can't wait.

Am also looking forward to people moaning because this is in fact a golf course thread and nothing to do with the half full crew.

It is all ok, just surprised that both the course and the practise facilities need to be closed at the same time. Barry, appreciate what the Society is doing, and we will take advantage of this.

Great weather is slowly refilling my glass...

Darren- 5th october and  hopefully you will owe someone!

Re golf course closure Nils unfortunately this is spanish culture,

I do agree 1 week to close is a piss take . 2 days should be enough. Hopefully they will put sort the greens out as although they put well they are not holding. Seems the sand base has disappeared !

But at least we can get the same rates at mar menor and saurinees and for many who havent played the new 18 at mar menor why not take the opportunity.

Look on the bright side .

I do try to look at the bright side, and I think the general condition of the golf course is excellent. So maintenance is good.

Today the ball machine is again out of order, and for some reason it seems the pitching green is closed. Guest players here do not get to hit balls before playing.

Maybe it is spanish culture to close their courses for maintenance, but it is still not a good idea. You can keep 9 holes open while fixing the rest. You can keep the course open while fixing the practise area. I am sure they do not have the manpower to work on all 18 holes and the practise area at the same time. But on this I rest my case and I appreciate the efforts from the Golf Society who are doing a great job for the golfers on Condado.

My advise to Olagolf is however: Buy a ball machine that is working and buy 10000 new balls for the range. We are expected to dress the part on this classy golf course. I suggest that the operation of the golf course should be at the same level. At the moment it is ragged jeans, T-shirt and barefoot..
