I am sure we are not the only ones to be caught out following receipt of Resortitalia's recenet e-mail about the need to make the charges by mid-November or face a fine.  Two questions:

  • Has anyone any idea how much we have to pay?  (We are on phase 1)
  • Has anyone approached the council and asked what to do if they can't get to Spain to collect teh bills and make teh payment by the deadline?

My solicitor said that previously they had dealt with this issue but for some reason the council has stopped the practice of solicitors acting on our behalf.

Hi,

We have just come back from a few days on terrazas. Our council tax bill was in our post box. If you have this you do not need to go to the town hall, you can pay cash at several  different banks, we paid ours in the bank of valencia in balsicas, we paid 162.51 for our appartment on phase 1, which is a three bed two bath. You can also set up a direct debit with your own bank to pay this, not sure though if you can do this the first time. Out of the choice of banks to pay through, there are at least three of these in balsicas, but it does have to be cash, then they stamp your copy and send off the appropriate bit to the town hall.

Helen.

Hi guys,

I live Terrazas, Phase 1 and have just paid my council tax (IBI) for 2010 - My solicitor has organised everything for me and is subsequently making the payment on my behalf. I paid €113.94 (for a phase 1, 2 bedroom penthouse apartment).

Cheers,

Mark

we have a penthouse in terrazas phase 2 and wondered if the council tax is the same tax that we have to pay to Resortalia or is this something else.

we came back at the end of october and up to then had not received any bill. would appreciate any info on this as we dont intend being back out until next year.

 Hi Saige,

Council Tax is different to 'community fees', which we pay Resortalia. Council tax (or IBI local rates), is a local government tax everyone has to pay whom has land in Spain. It isn't much - I have a Penthouse on Phase 1, and I paid 113 euros. The IBI bills were issued on the 8th November. I have just instructed my solicitor to organise the paperwork and payment (I transferred money into my solicitors account).

Once the first payment is made - you can set up a direct debit and any future payments (yearly), will be taken automatically. Again, your solicitor/fiscal representative can take care of this!

If you get your solicitor to make the payment make sure you ask for a copy of the paperwork (to make sure it has been paid).

Let me know if you need a recommendation on solicitors - I use a really good firm in San Javier. But if you already have a solicitor they should be able to sort this out for you!

Let me know if you need any further information.

Mark

Thanks Mark

Our solicitor is not local so I will contact him and ask if this has been paid but I do not remember it being mentioned before.

If we are not successful i will get back to you.

Hi Mark.

Can I ask how much your solicitor is charging you to pay the council tax? Our paperwork has ended up with a solicitor based in Torrevieja, and they want to charge us 157 euro + tax to pay our council tax!  We have emailed Resortalia on a different matter (ie did our property have a cadastral value for 2009) & they have put us in touch with a solicitors in Los Alcazares, who have advised us to email the Town Hall.

Thanks for your help.

Anneli

Hey  Anneli,

Of course - essentially, my solicitor looks after all my legal (wills, due diligence)  and fiscal matters (i.e. income tax and council tax). They charge 55 euros per year, but they sort out Council Tax and Income Tax, and any ad-hoc legal bits. They are also really local, in San Javier (behind Iceland) and everyone speaks very good English.

The 55 euros was a special price that we got, I think their usual yearly fee is 65 euros, but I'm sure they'll be happy to give you the 55 euros.

I hope that helps - let me know if you want their details, or need anymore help!

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I would grateful if you could give me the details of your solicitors & we will try them. I assume we would be able to email them? Even if they charged 65 euros that is a much better price!

Thanks for your help

Hi Anneli

We are in the same position as you also cannot go to the meeting. Have you received your bill if not how do you know how much to pay, are all the penthouses the same amount we are in 285.

We came back at the end of October and there was no notice re the council tax.

Thanks

Hi Saige,

This is our first council tax bill. We are on phase 1 & completed back in April 2009. Just in process of sending all our paperwork to Marks Solicitors (now also ours!!) & hopefully they will let us know soon how much we need to pay. I don't think you will need to pay council tax on phase 2/12 till next year.

Regards

Thanks aneli

Sorry for the delay in replying to you but have been busy sending paperwork to the community regarding the meeting.

We will leave the council tax until we know when it has to be paid.

regards
