Can anyone tell us what Christmas is like in Almerimar? Just thinking about maybe coming out this year. Are the restaurants and bars open? Is there anything going on at all?

Hi,

My experience is that it is a reasonably quiet time here with people spending Christmas day with their families. Some restaurants open and do an Christmas day meal. For example two years ago we went to MacGowans for Xmas lunch and last year we went to El Arroz. Both times we had a good time.

I know that Inés and Juan Carlos at El Arroz have decided to have a well earned rest this Xmas so they will not be open. However I am sure that some other restaurants will be open. I hope so as we may try to have a game of golf on Xmas morning followed by a late lunch somewhere in the port.

One thing to watch out for is the weather. We have been here for 6 Christmas days so far. On 5 of them it has been reasonable weather but last year it was raining a lot. It was awful weather for most of December, January and February. Lets hope things return to normal this year.

Thanks, John.

Haven't decided yet but we were looking at flights and they aren't badly priced at the moment so we need to make the decision before they start going up.

The likelihood is that the weather will be better than the UK but we can´t guarantee it. Especially after last winter.

I  always used to try to go away from England for Christmas and/or New Year if I could manage it as I wanted to have the chance to play some golf in the sunshine. So I am probably biased in favour of suggesting that you take a gamble.

If you don´t like it there will always be future Christmas holidays that you can have at home or elsewhere.

 Hi John,

well, we've booked it. So we are coming to Almerimar for Christmas .

Just need to find somewhere to book in for Christmas dinner now  .

Hi,

Join the club. Our venue of choice from last year, El Arroz, is closed over Xmas. We have a friend coming over with 4 other people in tow for the Xmas period and we will be looking for a venue for the 7 of us for Christmas Day.

So we will probably be doing a little tour around Almerimar in November or early December checking out where is going to be open. So watch out for an article on Almerimar Today closer to Xmas.

Jacqui and I hope you have a good Xmas here and for our sakes hope you have nice weather as well this year.

John

Had an email from a friend in Almerimar this morning who said that CKs and MacGowans were doing Christmas lunch but didn't know of any others yet. They said they would be asking around in November and drop us a line then. Which is fine as long as it isn't too late to book.

We were in El Segoviano restaurant last night sorting out details of the dinners after the Xmas golf comp (Friday 10 Dec) and England vs Rest of Europe golf comp (28 Jan 2011).

While there we discussed Xmas day with them. They said that they are open for lunch but not in the evening. Also, to book early as they expect the restaurant to be full. They said that they will not have an English Xmas lunch menu. It will just be their normal menu.

However we were discussing the possibility of having roast turkey and/or roast leg of pork as an option on the menu for Xmas day main course.

So this is another possible option.
