WHY WRITING IS IMPORTANT

WHY WRITING IS IMPORTANT

When applying for a job, writing to a newspaper, getting your point over to a community president or lawyer, it is essential that you make the write (sic) impression.

As a professional writer I am often invited to apply my keyboard cosmetics to a rough draft.  A pressure group had a point to make to its city’s consulates, a mayor needed to address ambassadors. It was important for the lobbying group's letter and the mayor’s address to be worded appropriately. They were pleased with my improvement to their rough copies.

A residents group was keen to get the local bus route amended to save them a walk. Needing to set out their appeal in a straightforward and professional manner they asked me to re-write their copy. They got their bus.

A lady in the Sol found herself in the deep end when having to explain, through her lawyer, why she had a frosty exchange with National Police officers. She had to get it right. Having sent me the rough account of what had happened I ‘did it my way’ and she breathed a sigh of relief. It was money well spent.

The client's get out of gaol option cost just €40 and was cheaper than a fine. The fee I charge is relative to the time I spend on it. It costs nothing to ask.

If you have a problem presenting your thoughts then let me see what you have in mind. Perhaps you know someone who needs my help. I will see what can be done and offer a price. If it is acceptable then let me know and we can take it from there.

Technology nowadays is advanced, everything can be done online or by the use of gadgets. But it would be more sincere if we can still write personally in applying but usually, using online application and e-mail is acceptable today.

Thanks Robert. True, there’s nothing creates a good impression as much a well written letter. James Fothergill, the CBI's head of education and skills, said, "Our recent research shows that 42% of employers are not satisfied with the basic reading and writing skills of school and college leavers and almost half have had to invest in remedial training to get their staff's skills up to scratch.”
Sadly, an email that is poorly written will not be taken seriously by the recipient.
