Spain's Largest Public Workers' Union to Call September Strike
15 July 2012 @ 01:14
MADRID--The largest trade union in Spain's civil service said Friday it plans to call a strike by government employees for late September in protest against austerity plans, including a cut of around 7% in salaries.
The date for the strike will be announced next week, following consultations with other unions, a spokeswoman for the CSI union said.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced the cut in public workers' salaries as part of the latest package of austerity measures looking to ensure that Spain will meet tough budget deficit targets for the next three years.
