Spanish retail sales fall by nearly 10% - further evidence of Spain's economy collapsing
29 May 2012 @ 13:38

The latest gloomy news out of Spain today is that retail sales fell 9.8pc year-on-year in April, which is the largest fall since 2003 when records began.  This is a truly staggering fall, but not susprising given that Spain now has close to 25% unemployment.

This is now the 22nd month in a row that retail sales have fallen.  Anyone living in Spain will not be surprised by these horrific numbers.  The vast number of empty shops, bars and restaurants up and down the country, are clear for all to see...

In El Ejido, Almería, and in Granada this is not at all obvious. The bars we normally go to are absolutely packed and the stalls in the central market regularly sell out. Our local Mercadonna supermarket in Adra, Almería, is full of shoppers and they have taken on more staff to fill the shelves and man the tills.
