New car park to change the face of Marbella town centre
04 March 2011 @ 14:00

The Town Hall has approved the plans for the car park under Avenida Severo Ochoa, with a budget of 6.8 million euros

Building a car park for 500 vehicles under the main access road into Marbella town centre was not a project to be rushed, especially at the height of the economic crisis. Now however the Town Hall has done its sums and drawn up the initial plans for the masterpiece of its town centre parking plan.

On Tuesday the local government approved the plans for the 6.8 million euro project that will involve a total face-lift for the central Avenida Severo Ochoa. The work is expected to take two years to complete and this week the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, indicated that construction could start this coming September.

The car park will stretch beneath Avenida Severo Ochoa (the old N-340) between the junctions with Avenida Nabeul and Avenida Huerta de los Cristales, covering a total of 18,200 square metres on three levels. The project will involve changes to the road layout on the surface, with the creation of two new roundabouts at the junctions as well as 1,000 square metres of gardens.
