Air traffic control problems delay UK flights
15 February 2011 @ 21:56
Work is continuing to fix a technical problem with air traffic control services over the north of England.
A National Air Traffic Services (Nats) spokesman said flights had been disrupted for much of the day, with average delays of up two hours.
It has affected flights to and from Manchester, Liverpool John Lennon, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle airports.
Equipment used by the air traffic control centre in Prestwick, Ayrshire, is thought to have failed.
Prestwick controls flights over Scotland, the north of England and Northern Ireland.
The new control centre at Prestwick became fully operational a year ago.
