Tapas and drinks for 5 people - 51 euros
28 August 2010 @ 12:51

One night last week we went out to one of the best tapas bars in the Manilva/Estepona area and was amazed at how cheap it was. We had 4 good sized tapas each (including pinchos) with bread. Between us, we had 4 pints of lager, 2 bottles of decent red wine, and 2 Cokes. The whole bill for the 5 of us came to 51 euros which is extremely cheap.  That's 10 euros per head.  If this had been a restaurant in the area, the bill would have been treble that. We were all full and left very satisfied.

The bar we went to was by no means the cheapest in the area, so it's possible to eat even cheaper.  But it is definitely head and shoulders above the rest of the tapas places in Manilva.  The bar is called el Molino and has only been open for 6 months or so.

So if you want a cheap way to eat, go to a tapas bar.

Whenever we are on holiday in other parts of Spain, we try and have a menú del día at around 2 - 2.30. Museums, shops etc will be closing around that time and in summer it is too hot to walk far in the afternoon. Then, as you say, the cheapest bet for the evening is to have a few tapas and vino - after a good menú we don't need to eat much in the evening anyway!

We've been to El Molino and it's good, but we prefer the Tapas at Lo de Andreas (which is in the corner of your picture), as the quality and quantity is better and you have much more choice, especially if you don't like fish! Yesterday we had 9 Tapas (pan was free and you can always have more, again for free), 5 Cerveza and 1 Lata Coke and the bill came to 24.30€

We would say Lo de Andreas is 'head and shoulders above the rest of the Tapas places in Manilva' not necessarily for price, but definitely for quality, quantity and service.

I've been disappointed with Lo de Andres the last couple of times I've been. The tapas has been pretty average. The girl (Isabel?) that worked in the kitchen left a while back, so maybe that's the reason.
