Speed cameras on Spanish roads
07 February 2010 @ 13:41
I was quite shocked to find out recently that there are a lot of speed cameras in Spain. Not as many as in the UK but still quite a few. They're also a lot more sneaky in Spain. They are usually nondescript looking grey/cream cloured boxes, a metre or so high at the side of the road. I had actually been passing a speed camera every day for 4 months, twice a day on my way to work without even realising it was a camera. Luckily I haven't had any letters so I can safely assume that I wasn't speeding. A Spanish friend of mine recently got flashed by this particular camera and his fine was nearly 200 euros.
So, to save yourself potentially hundreds of euros, I would take a look at this website, which uses google maps to show you the location of all of the speed cameras in Spain. The website is in Spanish but it's simple to use, even if you don't know any Spanish
On the website, in the box on the left hand side, select radares, then select your Provincia (Province) and in the Carreteras (Roads) box, you can optionally select a particular road.
Hopefully this may save you some money!
