Can anyone out there provide any information on this tax. What is the % rate charged. I know it is based on the value of the property at the date of purchase. Although we are residents now we were not last year when the tax is calculated, and we understand that you have to pay for a full year even if your deeds  are dated for a much shorter period which in our case is 156 days.
Do you need an accountant for this or can you do it yourself. On face value it does seem quite a simple thing to do if you are aware of the % of the value. If an accountant is required can anyone offer any suggestions and what the charge might be for this service. Apparantly this tax is being stopped as at 31/12/07 is there any chanch of getting away with it for the sake of 156 days. Thanks

Julie

We also have an August completion date but on our last visit it was intimated to us that May is a possibility. Having said that it takes a least a month to complete the paperwork before the keys are handed over. We are actually starting our journey down on the 23rd April and will be renting until the time comes also being in the area means that we can keep an eye on progress. We will have our laptop with with us but the use of it depends on our access to the net . We do have wifi so we are hoping to be able to log on somewhere. While we are out there if I can let you have any info please drop us a email. I know Vncent & Brona are plot 28 don't now the house number) but I do not know Julie's so if you can let us know we will do anything we can while we are there. Regards

To all you lucky people who have completed and are now in situ. When you completed and had to pay your final balance were you, despite the fact that it is illegal, asked to pay part of your balance in black money.  If you were and tried to object what reaction did you get from the solicitor and Taray. My concern is that the value of property that is partly paid in black money is  registered at lower than its value and the difference is liable to tax.

Many thanks Febe. It looks like I must go for permanent export but if you don't get any paperwork back from DVLA how do the Spanish authorities know that you try to do things legally!!!
Forum thread: Driving to our new home

A bit of help and advice please. We know some of you have driven over and we would be grateful for the benefit of your experience. We complete on our house in the uk on Thursday 5th April and after a few family visits and a few days spent seeing places we haven't seen we will be driving down at the end of April or beginning of May. We hope to rent until the house is ready. It is our intention to drive because we have a dog and we are not prepared to give him the stress of being stuck in the hold on a plane and rather than go by ferry we can take our time driving. We can also stop to pee and poo the dog when necessary.

We intend to reregister our car in Spain when our current tax expires next year ( I know a lot of you will say it is better to sell our car in the UK and buy another in Spain) but we need it to get there and it is fairly new with a low mileage and we would probably lose too much money for a cash sale in the UK.

The question is do we have to permanently export our car with the DVLA here to be able to reregister it in Spain or is this unnecessary. Can we just go to wherever it is to register with Spanish plates and then get Spanish insurance. Sorry it is long winded but wanted to cover the points.

Thanks Pete & Mave (No 32)
