The phone saga continues

Ever since we arrived in Spain over 2 and a half years ago we have been plagued by the eternal problem of phone lines. Why are Telefonica just so crap? Surely phones are a modern day essential that everyone has a right to?

When you're trying to run internet businesses, phone lines become even more important. Yet I just seem to be so unfortunate when it comes to getting a proper Internet connection. We have a wireless phone system for the office which is far from ideal and now, having moved to our new house, I am still battling with Telefonica to get a phone line. Will someone please tell this company that we're in the year 2007 and not 1907.

When we first got here I had to work out of an Internet cafe with fellow surfers blowing smoke in my face all day. Then I managed to get a mobile systems working on the laptop which worked ok but was slow and expensive.

And then when we moved house last month I made the mistake of applying for my new phone line at the Telefonica shop in Sabinillas. The application never actually got processed. So I rang them up instead and applied for it yet again (we're now 2 weeks behind). Then I get a call today that the technician is in the area but he's got the wrong address. Ahhh. I have to phone the head office again and give them the correct address (so close today). I rang the head office....they don't have any knowledge of my application...and I have to apply again!!!!!!!!

I have refrained from swearing in this post but it's not been easy.

The saga continues....

Hi Justin

Telefonica are sooooo unpredictable....

I applied for a second line last week and was told it would be a month before anyone could come. That was on the Friday.

On the Monday the Engineer is at my gate and I had a new line in about 2 mins!!!!

I cant complain but do sympathise with you

Do they have high speed internet where you are? My husband and I are considering moving to Madrid and wondered if high speed was available as readily as in the USA. We currently have Voicepulse (VOIP) for our phone and wondered if we could use it there. Any thoughts?

Well, amigo, I reside in Panama and have happened to stumble upon your site looking for travel information on Spain, but let me tell you something, regardless of Telefonica, lots of places in the world have this type of problem; it's negligence towards customers. We used to have Telefonica too, it was a hassle, thank god it went bankrupt, but now we have Movistar and Cable & Wireless, and none are good anyway and have the same problems. Alas, nothing can be done, companies are companies!

Have you tried speaking to Telefonica in English (http://telefonicainenglish.com)? I found venting my frustrations in English easier than in Spanish!

Hi fellow brit here living in San Roque (close to Gib). Well I sympathise over the electricity/telefonica problems which would have been great if they lasted only a couple of weeks for my hubby and me. Nope, we moved to our new home in 2005 and were denied electricity/water/telephone connections for eight months (thanks to shitty developers and council!)
It can always be so much worse hey?

telefonicainenglish are a complete waste of space. Once they have got your money for whatever you have bought, they wash their hands of you and refer you to Telefonica's help line! A fat lot of good that is!
