Selwo Park in trouble

It seems that the huge nature park, Selwo Park, near Estepona, is in big trouble financially. If you haven't been to this park then you're really missing out. There are over 2000 animals there spread over a massive area.

There is even a safari truck that takes you to different parts of the park. This place is really impressive. It's not cheap to go in but it's really worth it. So much to see and so open.

They have been really struggling with visitor numbers and now they are looking to convert part of the site to allow for new luxury housing developments to be built which will help support the park. In my opinion, it's quite sad that this is what is going to become of the park.

I suggest if you haven't been yet then check it out before it becomes a building site.

Estepona town council will have to get the plans past the Junta first. The Junta's president (Manuel Chaves) says no, so that's it then.

I've been to Selwo before (twice). Highly recommend you go before June or after September, or the heat will kill you. We went the first time in July and drank over TEN litres of water each that day, not counting innumerable ice-creams.

We went in the morning last summer and had a great time despite the heat. Took the trucks up the hill and walked down across the very sturdy "rope" bridges and the "valley of the birds" in the shade. It's a wonderful experience. Wish we'd had time to stay overnight in the Maasai huts which looked truly luxurious inside.
If you're in the area, do go.
