We take a look at the issue of damp in properties in Spain

It's not often talked about but damp is a big issue in properties in Spain and it particularly affects a lot of the new build properties due to the way they are constructed.  Jim from Pipe-Tek very kindly took us round to show us some of these issues and explains how we can prevent them ourselves.

A big thanks for Jim for his time today. If you would like to contact Jim about any drainage or damp issues in Spain his details are on his website at www.pipetek.net.

Thats very interesting. We have had problems for ages with damp and it seems its really caused by condensation. Thanks for the info. We'll take some action now.

Good points made about defective services and heaters.
Rising damp caused by lack of vapour barrier ie dpc (damp proof course) between ground level and floor level.
Condensation is also a problem as exterior walls are not properly insulated and with a temperature difference between inside and outside moisture can precipitate.
Until building specifications change there will always be damp problems with Spanish houses. Attention to floor construction would also be a must ie vapour barrier and insulation between ground and foor level. Some remedies will only be a temporary fix due to low specification of materials and construction methods.

Good show today, the camera work was better... We have the same problem with damp in Cyprus with new build houses and apartments.

We have very similar problems here in Cyprus but our damp proofing courses seem to do the trick and our customers seem to be happy !
