Bills, Bills, Bills

Although, you might have budgeted for the mortgage repayments of your holiday home and you have even taken into account community fees, before you know it you will have utility bills to account for too.

Gas

Along the coastal resorts mains gas is very rare. If you do use gas, the likelihood will be that you will use gas bottles supplied by Repsol Butano (www.repsolypf.com). In order to receive gas bottles, Repsol have to conduct a safety inspection and you will need to sign a contract. Inspections on all appliances are required every five years so that you can continue to qualify for provision of gas.

Bottles can be delivered but it is more economical to buy them direct from the depot, if a little inconvenient. To get your local delivery number call (+34) 901 100 100.

Electricity

Electricity is bought from Endesa. In Andalucia, Endesa operates under the name of Sevillana Endesa and you may hear them referred to as Sevillana.

Your tariff is calculated according to your power rating (potencia). You pay a standing charge in advance and consumption charges in arrears. Bills are paid bi-monthly and can be paid either by direct bank or at the bank. Many banks only allow bills to be paid between 8.30 and 10.30 without exception. IVA of 16% and electricity tax of 4.8% are applied to your bills which will be in Spanish.

Water

To get connected to mains water contact your local Town Hall to find out your provider’s details. You will need your passport and the previous contract/bills to start a new contract.

Please do not waste water in Spain as it is very precious. Water from rainfall is not distributed evenly so local municipalities take every effort to minimise water usage.
