El Grumpy Gringo - Good Old Telefonica!

Telefonica angrySix weeks?!!!   Six ruddy weeks I’ve got to wait to have my ADSL internet service re- connected.

I’ve just moved office (five doors down) and I asked Telefonica to come and move the line 100 yards down the road.  I specifically told them that I couldn’t move until the 18th and asked for them to come on, or after, that date – they arrived on the 8th !  When I explained that we hadn’t taken over the new office yet and there wasn’t even a door on it I got the Spanish shrug and a look that said “Either I do it now mate or else…..”  So after okaying it with my new landlord, he installed the line.

As we were keeping the same number I wasn’t sure if it was relevant to my internet service provider, Spantel, so I phoned to ask them.

“We’ll have to apply to Telefonica again.” They said.  “Fax through the boletin that the engineer gave you and we’ll set it up as soon as possible.”

I did so and waited a couple of days.  When I still didn’t have a connection I rang Spantel again.  That’s when they dropped the bombshell.

“It could take up to six weeks for Telefonica to okay the service.”

Good old Telefonica!   If there is one company that I wish was wiped off the face of the earth it’s Telefonica!  They are supposed to be taking over Orange – how the hell are they going to manage that? They can’t deal with what they’ve got now!

Luckily we have ADSL at home – once again - no thanks to Telefonica – this time it’s through AVI but it is going to  be a pain in the posterior having to sit in the office all day then go home to work on the internet and deal with e mails.  Oh the joys of running a business in Spain!

We have had several nightmares with TF. However, there do seem to be ways to get better attention... 1/ Speak Spanish. There is no doubt that you will get further by dealing with them in Spanish. 2/ Be male. Not PC, but seems to work in our area. 3/ Keep on it. Keep track of ALL calls (days and times), emails, letters regarding your problem. Follow up on a regular basis and re-state your issue, letting them know when the issue started, and anything that you were promised in the last contact. Well, one of us has to be organized, and we know what their record keeping is like! 4/ Make it clear if your business depends on your telefone/ internet. There is no doubt that this puts your higher up the queue. Hope this helps.8/21/2007 8:46:00 AMsparklyscotty
Iv'e been living in Spain now for 6 years and have experienced both domestic and business experiences with this company and must say that it must be run by the biggest Numties in the country. Up to now they have had no fierce competion but with technology things are changing fast especially wireless transmission. They let me down very badly and i would revel in there demise. 8/21/2007 2:28:00 PMyorkshireman
