Investors – Why they always return to Spain

Bulgaria is the current investor hotspot and some claim that it is the Spain of yesteryear. Enthusiastic real estators sell it on the premise that those who have missed the Spanish boat are given a second chance. Personally, and I may be wrong, I am not convinced.

There is only one Spain and there always will be. It has such an appeal that even the most daring investor having tested the Bulgarian and Romanian waters will come back for more. It’s true that it isn’t completely fool proof and there have been a number of off plan buyers disappointed for one reason or another, but nevertheless it is better the devil you know…

Although, it might be a bit pricier than the emerging markets it is easily accessible from all the major UK airports and offers the right level of predictability for a guaranteed good holiday. It really is tried and tested to the point that everyone knows someone who has bought there that can enlighten them with their knowledge of the system.

For those looking to relocate or spend a considerable amount of the year in Spain, the internet is full of practical advice about living in Spain from the health system to the education system. This you will not find for countries such as Romania or Hungary. There is a support network of expats like no other country.

Having researched similar territories further a field, for many hardened investors it feels like coming home.

I cannot claim to be a hardened investor, in fact a pensioner beginner. I may not be hardened but am very badly bruised which may make me hardened in time but not as an investor in Spain I fear.
I see the Spanish "LICENCE TO LET - VERY RARELY GRANTED BY THE TOURIST AUTHORITY" as detailed in the Sunday Telegraph as a total price killer and deal breaker to any investor hardened or not. Don't you???
