 Mas movil worked for me. All you need is an unlocked phone (or I think their sim card works with orange). You purchase the card for 15 euros but that gives you 15 euros worth of calls. It works out a lot cheaper than using a UK mobile phone.

They have a good website with all the info you need. masmovil.es and click the link for English.

 Hi all,

help and advice needed re alarm systems. When I purchased my apartment it was installed with an alarm system from Securitas. I have been paying about 36 euros per month for their services. It works fine but whenever there is a problem ie false alarm, they contact me by phone and that is all they do. I then have to phone a neighbour who checks that there hasn't been a break in ect.

The monthly fee seems a little high for the service receive and I know there are other systems available.

Is anyone using an alarm system with GSM or better still, a system with video links to your mobile phone? Any help or advice would be appreciated as I would like to sort this out by October.

 Oh dear, these informative posts have now got me worried. I am due to retire next year and will be living off the state pension plus income from two small private pensions. This will not amount to the €1000 + that people are talking about.

I have a two bedroom apartment in Spain and a  three bedroom house in the UK, I think I will have to downsize to create some capital. 

I was hoping to spend summer in UK and winter in Spain but the problem being two lots of charges.

Maybe do another year or two at work and hope that sterling revalues.
