hi biglewy

We're quite regular fliers into gib and unfortuantely theres not a great choice of car hire companies operating out of the airport cos its so small, 2 I think, one being aurigacrown (who we generally use) and I think the other one was europacar, but not 100%.

I tried to book a car for some friends a couple of weeks ago who were also flying into gib and they had came up with nothing - no cars available at all. (I believe there was a thread somewhere about auriga not buying any more new stock and running out of cars - not sure if that was something to do with it). I tried for them too and was getting the same problem so I e-mailed auriga and asked if they had anything available at all.  They informed me that they had a choice of about 3 cars available, cant remember how much, it was only for three days hire, but at least our friends got a car.  You pay at the airport and have to have your card swiped as a deposit for damages, fuel - we pay for a full tank but return it empty, cant say we really have that much of a problem with them, but then others will disagree!

Unfortuantely leaving it at such short notice will always be a problem, especially at this time of year and the companys know that youre desperate and will try to charge you the earth. Depending where youre staying, you could consider getting a taxi to your hotel (if thats what youre staying in) and asking the conceirge to sort you one out, or if your staying in an apartment there are car hire places around that you can walk into and try your luck there.

Dont know if this has been any help, best of luck and have a great time out there!

Semijubiliada, thanks for your reply and advice - the apartment is only in my husbands name, although the lawyers have all my details I couldnt get over there when he went over to get his NIE, so its his name on the mortgage, utility bills, taxes etc which means the fiscal rep fee is only for him not both of us!!!

You are right in saying they have nothing else to represent us for, everything is paid by direct debit including IBI now, I wasnt aware that  we didnt have to pay Wealth Tax next year, is that applicable to all of non residents with property in Spain or just certain areas ie like yourself being in the Costa Blanca?

As the Company we use are Legal & Tax consultants they have all the original documentation related to the purchase of our apt including my husbands original NIE certificate, they were also given power of attorney back then so they could sign all the legal stuff on our behalf rather than keep on flying back and forth - could this be the reason they are charging such a high fee still?

Can I also be a pain and ask - do we have to take the form personally to the tax office or can it be posted and how do they accept payment? (Sorry if this has already been asked, I know it can be annoying when it is probably covered on another thread but Im a bit short on time to go 'surfing'!

Hi Johnf
Looks like your fees are about the same as plexx  was charged, we are being charged 174€ activity fee (whatever that is) plus another 406€ representation fee, that was my original query really, if anyone could clarify what the difference is between the two fees, the actual tax itself were ok with!!

Hi Plexx
Sorry if I mislead you somehow re the IBI, you are right the town hall does issue the bills but for some reason we never received the notification they issued to inform us that the IBI was due for payment (we werent the only ones either, the post doesnt always go into the right boxes at our community so the first we knew about the the payment being due was through other homeowners.) This was our first one since our development was finished two years ago, apparently the developer paid the first one from what I gather and then last years bill had to be paid by ourselves this year (they do it in arrears fo some reason - one payment in July and the other in september I think, we were late with both and paid them in October + interest for late payment - ouch!!.  Hubby had to take his NIE number to the town hall then they gave him the paperwork which he then had to take to a bank which accepted IBI payments (not all do) and he set up a direct debit at the same time so we havent got to worry about that anymore.(Work of warning if it hasnt been given already, they dont accept credit card payments only cash - my husband had to find 1400€ in cash!!)
