 ALBOX NAVY CLUB.

At 13.00 on Tuesday 9th July 2013, a meeting was held at Bistro Bonita, Cerro Gordo, Cantoria, the object being to form an association in this area not only for submariners but anyone with a naval interest? It has been initiated by Chris Wright and John Patrick (both ex RN Submariners)

The new club will be called the ‘Albox Navy Club’ and is open to anyone with any naval connection. The club will meet monthly at Bistro Bonita, Cerro Gordo. At 13.00 on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

There were 5 naval types at the 1st meeting, with 1 apology and 1 other interested party making a starting membership of 7, which is very good considering the very short notice of the inauguration? There was a mix of both Royal Navy and Merchant Navy members and a very good first meeting took place with excellent tapas provided by Chris Wright (mine host).

The object of this new venture is to provide a monthly gathering of like-minded ex-navy men or any other interested party to ‘spin dits’ and ‘swing the odd lamp, remembering those days spent at sea. Ladies are welcome and it has been suggested that a ‘Ladies Section’ could be formed?

The next meeting will be at 13.00 on Tuesday 6th August 2013, there is no joining fee although a thought must be given to raise some form of finance?

All are welcome.

Further details can be obtained from either: Chris Wright 950930169 or John Patrick 950930694.

I thought that the question was about health care? I am an ex-pat as we seem to be called and I have lived very happily in Andalucia for over 6 years now. As far as health care is concerned, we are fully covered by the Spanish Health Service, having done all the right things when we arrived here.

I will say that I find the Spanish Heath Service excellent. We have a first class Spanish Doctor, who speaks good English (we had to hunt around a bit to find him?). I get excellent service, all free medication, (although not Gluten Free foods as in the UK?) Our local hospital is 1st class and we are completely happy and satisfied. So pack your bags and do the best thing that you have ever done in your life. España is excellent and our home for the rest of out lives.

Having read all the above comments I can only tell you our experience. We moved here just over 6 years ago, did all the right things as far as Form 121 etc. and have found the Spanish National Health Service in this area (Cantoria, Almeria) excellent. We changed doctors a couple of times (which was very easily done) until we found the right one, who is absolutely superb. We have both received hospital treatment which again was excellent. I have a couple of nasty ongoing medical problems which are well looked after with very expensive drugs but as we are pensioners so all free. I suggest that you do not waste your money on PMI until you get out here. When you are here ask around all the ex-pats you can find, If there is a problem in the area you will soon find out, all us 'old codgers' like talking about our health!!!! If there is a problem then shop around for the best PMI, again ask around, do not rush into anything. In conclusion I can tell you that the best thing that we have done in our life is move to Spain. We love it and tell everyone that we have found 'Paradise'?
